I seem to see more Mitsubishi about than probably any other,i was quite liking some of the models on the US Ford website,f150Raptor which is kinda my style and my mate in Canada has one.
The one below F150 Raptor and tremor.
Anyone got any thoughts has to what they think is the best,it can be any from the likes of Nissan,Toyota etc....
I do like the look of the Raptor.

Being an L200 owner I agree - loads of them about.
Can't see why, when there are better ones out there.

They're not even that cheap or that good to justify the popularity.

Raptor is different but they are humongous on UK roads! I see one everyday and it dwarfs Range Rovers!

Do you NEED a pickup truck?
Because to be honest, they are pretty unpleasant to drive. I cant talk for the more modern ones as I have no idea how they are put together, but mine is a 2002 Mazda B2500. Like all others of this era, Hilux, L200 etc etc, its leaf springs and a live rear axle on the back, which makes for a bouncy ride, especially when unladen and it is extremely tail-happy in the wet.
Plenty other drawbacks too....no room inside for carrying anything unless its on the seats or in the rear footwell - as for putting anything in the back, unless you have a hard top, you cant carry anything that is not waterproof, and you cant park up with anything in the back without risking it getting pinched. Anything in the back also has to be well strapped down or wedged in place or it bounces all over the place. Its really not the ideal vehicle for the weekly shopping.
Pretty good as a tow vehicle though - the long wheelbase makes them fairly stable with a trailer on, although the rear overhang is a little long. Rated at 2.8 tons, which is about on a par with most other 4x4's but behind range/disco/defender which will tow 3.5 tons.
Mine doesnt get much use TBH, I mostly use it for hacking about at work, carrying logs, chainsaws atc and towing the log splitter, which is does very well. Its ok on a long run on decent roads, but local trips on bumpy roads are just bloody tedious and often spine-jarring.

My Dads got a newish automatic Toyota Hilux Invincible and before that he had an imported Hilux Vito. Can't fault them to be honest and they have always been reliable. The automatic in the Invincible is very easy to drive, but it's the only automatic I've ever driven so have nothing to compare it to. I've also looked at the Nissan's and L200's but the Toyota is defiantly more spacious if you want it to transport a family around. In fact, I probably see more families with trucks compared to estates.

We actually use the truck how it should be used.... Not all these silly townies with L200's with personalised plates and big silly chrome roof rack bar things and even in some cases low profile tyres....

I've been in a few, driving from Newcastle to Scotland in an L200 was an awful experience and gave me a bad back.

Boss bought a nissan nirvana and it spat a Con rod after 30k miles ( apparently common )

Its not going to be used for shopping lol,but know why you asked,used to be mad on land rover years ago but still like the D90.As for your modern day land rover dis 4 etc,they just don't look what they were meant to be made for anymore,they are just bling and fashion accessory looking in my eyes.
At least with the ones i mention above,although they are all modern looking etc,is still some ruggedness about them.
This is for carrying Auto Tools,outdoor equipment such as tents,rucksacks,power kite buggy,maybe a couple mountain bikes,this type of general thing,going out in the sticks on dirt tracks and forest tracks etc,but will be used for on road too for work travel etc,or nipping to the shop for a 24 pack ....I don't see many of the Fords about but the local dealer has a few double cab rangers and a thunder,needs to be a double cab,
Or could go back to a scooby sport wagon...

My L200, whilst being the fairly bling Animal variant, is used every day for work.
Permanent ladder attached to the rack, the rear is full of work stuff.

I drove from Notts to Edinburgh and back in the snow a few years back (has had Grabber AT2 tyres fitted from new)- whilst it handled heavy snow on the A1 with ease, it was a bloody awful drive over that distance.

Needs a 6th gear for any distance.

I'll be getting rid in the new year and buying a van again, as I no longer need the seats.

(Anyone want a lightly used <40k mile L200 with no VAT.....? )

We got one of these over a year ago & use it on a daily basis, great for work, great for dogs covered in mud just throw them in the back, camping equipment, fishing, shopping, 55'' LED tv fits in the back no problem & anything else. It goes off road and over terrain I would never of dreamed of going over before! Mud up to the wheel centres is not a problem with the right tyres.
We have a hardtop now.
Will never be without one now!
Feels like a car inside too.

Yes it is, loads of room in the back, depends as always how far back the front seats are but more than enough room for 5 adults inside. We looked at a few pickups before this one and just sitting inside the VW we were sold!

50% of pickups are useless , I've been looking for something decent looking preferably a crew cab to cart my trials bikes around , The rear truck bed on most of em is useless unless you want to transport a couple of bags of peanuts

A couple guys at work who do motocross use vans for their bikes.I don't see why you need to be a farmer to have such a vehicle,if you live an active life and carry a lot of baggage about then i think its ideal.like strike said you can throw a couple muddy dogs in the back no problem,oh and is probably still plenty of room for that 24 pack on the way home.

I've had pick ups for the last 15 years, Toyota's old and new, L200's Nissan navara's and we have 2 x Vw's at the mo. they have come a long way in 15 years and are now very car like to drive.
They are very useable everyday, dog in the back & 5 adults no problem.
6 speed manual and 8 speed auto vw's at the mo. returning 35mpg (manual)33 for the (auto) They will sit at 85 on the motorway no problem & without revving to hard.
The navara's 06 & 07 that we had suffered clutch and flywheel issues made worse if u used them for towing. Pretty poor on fuel 2 returned low 20's mpg, sub 20 if towing.
I Wudnt own anything else other than a pick up for everyday driving/work.

I think the F150 model is US only,all the ones i seen on the net appear to be imported.
But the Ranger is for UK and comes in 4 models.I quite liking the style of that VW amarok though.

I also came across this 1969 mustang being sold at a land rover dealer..

I've got one for work. I had a 2004 Ford Ranger and now a 2010 Ford Ranger.

The difference between the two is night and day.

I've got the option to swap it for a car now as my role has changed slightly but the pickup is so handy. Use it for all sorts that I probably could use a car for most (not all) but its sooo much easier with a pick up and I don't have to worry about making a mess in the back
