MPs have suggested a 32% hike in their pay to the Commons expenses watchdog, it has been revealed.

Members said they deserved an £86,250 salary in an anonymous survey conducted by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (Ipsa).

The research also found more than a third think they should keep final salary pensions.

Well, we do get value for money - don't we?

i dont for one second begrudge anyone making a living, and a decent one at that , but if this is what these people genuinely feel is acceptable, whilst at the same time claiming "cuts are inevitable - meaning people loose there jobs!! we all need to tighten our belts in these times of austerity - pay freezes/cuts almost everywhere and yet they thing they should get or atleast want that kindof rise???!!!

Why do they need a pay rise when they can just put the 32% on the expense card! Even after all the public statements. Saying they will stop expenses abuse it rose £500m a year, quality ad they deserve every penny.

I don't think they should be paid at all.
If it was a voluntary job, we wouldn't be stuck with the current money grabbing people that are there solely to line their own pockets.
Or how about this; If each constituency was given an allowance to finance their own MP, we would then see only honest MP's in the job, as they would have to answer direct to the constituency they represent.
Also, currently you don't need any type of qualifications to run the country. Only an affiliation to the ruling political party. Maybe we should have some sort of university course that all politicians have to pass in order to be a member of parliament.

It's just a survey to say they think they are under paid. Article says they will be getting a 1% increase this year and 1% next year!

We all think we're under paid so I'm sure we'd all answer a survey the same. Don't agree with them getting a pay rise full stop though when the rest of the public sector is frozen.

Lucky buggers. I've not had a pay rise for three years and probably not for another two. Estimated 14.6% drop in income in real terms in three years and I wasn't really flush then.

So this kind of thing hacks me off.

ive said a few times before, a similar scheme to this - how about just a flat salary for all, maybe PM 10k more. thats it.
then all the b/s jostling for the top would really be about wanting the job to make things better, not just a pay rise or increased perceived power rise.

then maybe an effective person could land the job- all the idiots shouting abuse at each other, or making outlandish claims - fine - but use them to get the job and fail to deliver, then its up on a fraud charge with a custodial sentence to encourage a wee bit of thought before they make stupid claims or promises - and maybe we would get some good ideas into place as a consequence??

If someone did a survey and asked you what salary you think you are worth, would you answer with a higher salary than you get or would you not?.

we have regular surveys at work and one of the questions is always how salaries match expectations/industry etc .

I've never answered with anything but "I should be paid more". I dont expect it to make a difference ;-)

So as above -this was someone asking them if in general MPs should be paid more, rather than them "calling" for more pay.

I actually think £65K is a very low salary for the job. Plenty of middle management in large corporations or salesmen with bonus etc that make far more than that with a fraction of the impact on the nation as a whole. So I'd pay them much more, but be far stricter on outside earnings (like none).

To be fair, if the same survey was conducted in other places of work, most people would say that should be paid more. Doesn't change the facts though. Times are tough - getn used to it!
I personally feel, like most businesses at the moment, they should have a pay freeze. At least until the end of this term.
