Modern pop music, female artistes....

Pink has talent, she's great live.
I like lana del rey too.
When in the mood for some cheesy pop music i like britney, avril lavigne, girls aloud, rhianna but I can appreciate the different between someone singing along to some meaningless words put together for them, and someone who composes, writes and records their own music. The latter is talent, and seems to get massively overlooked.

Yes, writing great songs is talent, but so too is singing great songs well, and the two don't always go hand in hand. Take for instance Bob Dylan, his singing is fecking awful
Conversely, Aretha Franklin, Dusty Springfield, Patsy Kline, Shirley Bassey, Peggy Lee, etc, never wrote a word of any of the songs they sang, yet that doesn't stop them being acknowledged as the greatest of their generation

If you are just concerned about pure singing ability then out of the current lot Sia does a pretty good job. Tulisa CAN actually sing when she wants to, but her singles are multitracked strained pap.

Becky Jones anyone? Also known as SaintSaviour, used to sing for Groove Armada? Bit Kaye Bush like vocally but not style.

I'd not heard of her before this appearance with Jools Holland, an I was blown away by it
