You're not being serious though, are you? I've read and enjoyed your project threads and know you're not in Team Thick, so where does this come from? Surely when you shelve your emotions you can rationalise through to conclude that what you're saying is steaming horseshít?

The DP is the ultimate punishment, it not really a deterrent at all. To think otherwise is extremely naive.

Why does having a different opinion make you thick ?

So if I switch sides I become slightly more intelligent

Certainly more evolved. Go back and have a look at the list of countries who practice the death penalty; I'd wager that the 'States and Japan will be off that by the close of the century. NS04's the only one to have presented a sound argument for the use of the dp and that's the humanitarian one: It's kinder than a life of incarceration without ever again experiencing freedom. Anyway, as stated, the argument's already been won. Your side's already lost.

if you strip away all the arguments put forward on this thread against the DP, arguments both moral, ethical and practical, arguments that the fvcwits on this forum fail to grasp - that list of countries who still actively practice the DP is the single biggest shining light on the barbarity of the DP and the backward societies/cultures that still practice it.

I have argued many times on this forum that we are, as a country, in grave danger of race to the bottom culture both, economical and socially

Bringing back state killing would really be the icing on the cake

The only race to the bottom is too keep letting these sick minded killers out to do it again.Everyday you flick over to the news now,you here a report of someone has been stabbed,or shot,or beaten and shot/stabbed,or some young child has gone missing.
That 5 year old girl who was taken never had the choice. If you go out and have the mind to do something like that to a young child, one who can't even defend themselves, you should swing for it.
She hasn't been found yet,but its looking likely now that she is no longer alive.
You lot appear to be more concerned for the killer than the victim.
I think we have gone way past the point for some in this country, when a slap across the *** from your mother would keep you in line.

Sadly many people that do kill have nothing, so prison is no punishment.
The costs of prisons aren't important are they, as mugs like me who work their nuts off will have 20 - 35K taken out the bank by The Government each year.

We need to take a leaf from America's book on punishment I'm afraid.
If you think that would deliver the kind of criminal justice system you're calling for here, you could be in for a pretty big surprise. For one thing, in the 26 years since the death penalty was reinstated in the US, there's been on average only 1 execution carried out for every 350 murders that occurred. If you extrapolated that to this country's murder rate, you'd be looking at a single execution every 6 or 7 years. Not quite as many as you were expecting?

For another, there are at any one time more than 2 million people at some stage of being processed through the US criminal justice system, either serving prison sentences, awaiting trial, or on parole. Extrapolating that figure to the UK's population, you could expect the overall cost of our criminal justice system to increase 3 or 4 fold, if not more. My guess is that your tax bill would be pretty unlikely to go down on that basis (nor mine).

What about supermax prisons? I posted this the other day:

https://www.scoobynet.com/showpost.p...3&postcount=77

I've subsequently thought (prior to Lewis starting this thread) that advocating a kind of torture owing to my contempt for this man and what he believes actually marked me out as a hypocrite. I don't support torture. Ever. Having said that, I've also stated on here that I believe Jihadi Islamists are to be dispassionately extirpated and yet I don't support the death penalty. I guess when one moves away from criminality toward threats to fundamental beliefs the lines become blurred. Eternal solitary is torture, death is barbaric, standard jail time is insufficient.

LOL Team Thick

I feel if a guy that is willing to kill someone's young daughter, grand daughter, or kills two women PC for the hell of it should die...... yes, I do believe that should happen in our country.
No, I'm not thick, but I am a Father who has views.

Yes it may be.
My wife and I helped out friends moving abroad and put them up for 5 months including their 6 yr old daughter. First month she was happy, the next 4 she wasn't because her own grandfather had intercourse with her when she stayed with him for one weekend and now we need to testify about the girls condition when she stayed with us.

So you could say that mate.

I think it's barbaric and stupid. The convicted murderer gets killed by another murderer.Sorry but no don't like this at all. It's plain daft trying to achieve something here on SN.What if there is an innocent party in all this ?.It would be the scene from Robin Hood Prince Of Theives, trying to save his brother.

We aren't trying to achieve anything, nor will we. I wouldn't really class this thread as argumentative either as it's just a forum where we are all expressing our own views.
Nothing wrong with that as we are all entitled to a view but when something happens and it touches your own lives it does make you view certain issues in another way especially when you see the real reaction of in our case friends.

The little girl went from a very cheerful person to a child that literally nodded rather than talked and seemed petrified of her Father and me purely because we were men. She kept it quiet for 23 months before telling her Mum what happened.

Truly awful and gut wrenching to witness such a massive change in someone.

Her Grandfather (her Mum's Dad) has been caught doing similar with two other girls since, and this is why my wife and have been asked by the police to attend court next year at his hearing.
