Default No Tax Disc on Display

My dad has sent the tax disc to DVLA for a refund \ and sorn his car.

My dad has now decided to use the car..

Called up the DVLA they have advised to go get a duplicate disc from the DVLA office and the application forum once processed will be rejected automatically.

Car is still showing up as taxed according to the dvla, and they said the police will see the same information if they were to check the Database..

Now my dad cant get to the DVLA office, so has sent the application forum off, and new duplicate disc will take near 6 days....and wants to drive over this weekend..

Whats the worst that can happen if a copper pulls him over and is being a complete dick? is it a fine - i remember i paid £30 odd on my bike for not displaying the tax last year on my bike...

They don't fine you these days unless your an aese with the copper. Mine was three weeks out of date, but it was actually taxed. The copper stopped me as he seen the wrong date. When he checked the dvla all was fine told me to display the new one And sent me onu way.

I bought a car years ago from a garage with 5 mts tax on it, 1 week before the tax expired i got pulled up by the police for having no tax, i told them i bought it taxed and the regestration date proved i was telling the truth, the officer simply said the payment for the disc bounced but as long as you tax it at the end of the month he will be happy, so off i toddled,.

I don't even bother to display my tax disc on my caterham kit car

I have had it stolen a few times so don't bother now! Just keep it pinned up on the notice board at home

Would seem to be where you are in the country then!

I got a ticket for not displaying the tax disc, but the chap who issued it never put his name or signature on it. Spoke to Police about it and they told me to send the ticket away to the sheriffs office with a letter explaining....they waivered it.

I reckon the issuer done it purely as a warning.

I asked a mate of mine who's plod and he reckons if you are taxed and there's are genuine reason for not displaying they usually turn a blind eye and so they should.

I think that's been a problem for the police. When everyone towed the line, it was a case of prosecute people for inadvertently missing something. Now thousands of scum don't even bother with tax, mot, insurance if they come across someone who is law abiding they are pretty relaxed about some things.

Depends entirely on the copper some let it go if the vehicle is taxed, some decide to be ******* about it. Had loads pull me for not displaying my trade plates correctly but most were fine about it in the end.

I don't display those for my bikes, for the same reason, I usually keep them in my wallet just in case I'm stopped.

We did have an incident at work a couple of months ago with a rozzer wandering about on our (private) car park checking tax discs. He apparently asked our works foreman why two of the motorbikes (mine being one) weren't displaying current discs, to be told that it was because we are in the centre of Ashton Under Lyne, where people like him wasted all their time trying to find nothing 'crimes' that were simple to solve, rather than putting any effort into catching the thieving ******* who plague our business and drive our insurance premiums sky high

BTW; one of my bikes is a 100cc Honda, it's tax disc has been stolen twice

Theoretically the Law says you have to display a valid tax disk.

That's all fine and well but 3 yrs ago i had my tax go missing.
A few months after that as i was getting ready to go to work there was a knock on the door.
It was the police.
According to them i had wheelied past them and then refused to stop.
Turns out my bike had been cloned and the tax disc was the icing on the cake for the cloner i believe.
Lucky for me the helmet and leathers were not like my ones so i was let.off after an afternoon in the cells.
