Has anyone moved over and used GiffGaff? Is it any good?

I seems like its PAYG, but can you not set up a direct debit so it takes £10 a month for example?

Yeah I'm on it and it's great. The service is exactly the same as with O2. At present, you can't set up a direct debit but they are gonna rectify that.
What you can do for now is buy two goodybags & set the second to start after the first one ends.
I can put up with that for 250 mins, unlimited texts & unlimited data for £10 per month

I'm currently paying £36/month and really don't need what it offers!

So would like to change to something a lot cheaper! I'm currently with Vodafone, and find the signal poor at work now. There is also Talk Mobile which is £8/month, but unfortunately that uses the Voda network. So that leaves GiffGaff!

I was thinking about the same goodbag as you. How does it work exactly? If I move over, say 1st Dec and purchase my first goodybag, and use it etc. What will happen on 1st Jan? Would I not be able to do anything with the phone, unless I purchase another goodybag? But like you said, you can que them up.....

Yes GiffGaff will port in your old number (from pay monthly or PAYG) if your old provider will provide the code to release the number, which they will provided you've fulfilled your contact's minimum term.

Edit to add I'm also very pleased will GiffGaff; one of the best features is totally free calls and texts to others on GiffGaff. Only trouble is with that I then don't spend enough to justify getting a Goodybag with free internet! I can also provide a link to get you a free £5 introductory credit (I'd get points worth £5 too, another good feature/perk), but Boro and XRS first as above.

Another happy GiffGaff user here, changed over about 6 months ago as I have a work phone and don't use my private one enough to warrant a contract. Haven't looked back since!

The GiffGaff forum is quite useful too .

Who's network does GiffGaff piggyback? I'm v tempted for this for the missus.

Shes on Orange PayG at the min - she probs spends over £10 per month.

I'm glad I get a paid for company mobile from work which I can use for personal as long as I dont take the p1ss

How does the credit work?!

As if I buy a £10 goodybag, obviously that £10 doesn't exist as credit does it? So is that separate in terms of you can add credit to the phone or add a goodybag?

So in theory can you have zero credit, but have a goodybag active? Just your free minutes/texts can't be used for premium rate numbers can they, so I wouldn't be able to use the phone in that case?

Yes you can have zero credit with the goodybag still in place. I get the £10 goodybag, 250 mins, unlimited text and unlimited internet. The added bonus is calls to other giff gaffers don't use any of your 250 mins with the additional bonus of your free giffgaff calls and texts running for 3 months regardless of whether you top up or not. So if your pals or mrs is on giffgaff you could top up a tenner every quarter and get free calls and text to giffgaff phones for 3 months
Also with regards to the guy asking about direct debit you can save your card details on the website and you can set it to automatically add your next goodybag each month

You can also get data only plans, ideal for ipads, dongles, etc.

Just tether off an existing phone data plan, making a separate tariff unnecessary.

Giff Gaff is OK value but not as good as squeezing a big player. Obviously this involves talking to retentions which I appreciate most people don't like doing and would rather pay the advertised price and faff about with remembering to renew month after month.

A bit caravan for me.

If your goodybag runs out and you have no credit, then yeah I suppose you wouldn't be able to use your phone. If you have credit then once the goodybag ends you go on the standard PAYG rates, which are cheap. You can use outstanding credit to buy another goodybag too. You get a text reminder to tell you your goodybag is running out anyway.
The other thing I like is that calls to 0800 numbers are free.
The app is good too. The only downside to them from coming from O2 is that currently there is no visual voicemail.

Messing about with bloódy 'Goodybags' is enough to make it annoying when you can pay £10/Month Direct debit for 600 minutes, 1Gb internet, unlimited texts, 100 MMS, 100 minutes video calls, 0800,0845,0870 calls, Vodafone to Vodafone calls, 750Mb BT WIFI and free tethering using the existing 1Gb data allowance, if you ask nicely.

Jeez, I agree with Spoon, the hassle is enough to put me off. £20 a month and the only time I ever think about it is when I renew or change contract at the end of the term.

I'm paying that for 600 minutes, unlimited (not sure how much exactly) internet, unlimited texts, etc. Would make the effort come renewal time to get that £10 a month you're talking about ^^^, as long as I didn't have to bother about it again for at least a year.

Don't wait for renewal to add things. I've got the full house now. It was more of a joke here to see if phoning retentions on ocassion would be fruitful or not. I also got them to mirror the deal on the wifes number. She wouldn't know what tethering was if it hit her square in the nunk, effectively giving me 2Gb for a WIFI only iPad intead of wasting money on a 3G model.
