Default iphone using vodafone, anyone else get the same problem ?

I have an iphone 3GS which is generally superb to use, my handset is sim free and i use it with a Vodafone sim card.

Quite a lot of the time especially indoors i get the "E" sign where the 3G logo should be on the top bar near the signal strength indicator, i'm pretty sure that stands for emergency only.

My phone is in one of those tech21 D30 cases, their like a gel type case that covers the back and sides with cut outs for buttons etc

Anyone else get similar probs using an iphone on vodafone ?

Not an iPhone but on my HTC the E symbol signified it was connected to an Edge network, think it's a high speed variant of GPRS but not as good as 3G

Each time the "E" appears i can't use the internet, also as a test i got a mate who was sat next to me to send e a text message, it came through about 10 mins after he sent it. Its basically useless when that "E" appears.

i think you will find you don't have good 3g coverage were you live, i quite often get the same during peak times.

vodafone is as shadow of it's former self as far as coverage is concerned due to the amount of people using it i think.

Edge will still work with the internet but wont be as quick as 3G.

If you really want p1$$ poor 3G reception then come to South Wales and try using the O2 network, my mobile phones (both work and private) spend so much time on the E signal that they may as well take up rock climbing.

How old is your SIM card? If it pre-dates 3G then that's gonna be your problem.

Vodafone are crap. I am bloody tied to the wasters and their dire signal because it's the only one I can get at home through the "sure signal"

I think its more to do with Vodafone, I was with 02 and Tmobile and never had a problem with the internet on either network in years. I have moved to Vodafone and the signal for the mobile web drops constantly on my Galaxy s2 and I can only use the internet when the "h" signal is visable. Thank god I only got a 12 month contract
