Default Polarized lenses

Are they worth the extra? I'm shopping for a pair of prescription sunglasses, probably as part of a 2 for 1 deal on the main clear pair and need to decide what kind of lenses to get.

I'm assuming the biggest benefit would be driving long distances in the sun or reading on the beach and such, but are there any down-sides compared with ordinary tinted lenses, particularly in prescription sunglasses?

If you have to look at something that's already polarised - phone screens for example - you'll find you can only see the screen in portrait or landscape, not both.

I've just changed from polarised to non and haven't noticed much difference.

my eyes are really sensitive to bright sunlight and i found, about 5 years ago, that polarized sunglasses are a decent step up in the sunglasses stakes. they will filter out the wavelength of reflected light, so on top of the tint layer you are also getting rid of a whole load of bright reflected light too.

they are worth the extra money.

They would certainly be an improvement under conditions of glare.
