Some stuff is better than other stuff. Look it the display and see what its made of. Surprisingly you can regularly buy better solid timber pieces for less than foil finished chip board...

Their stuff is ok.
We live 25 miles from our 'local' Ikea and out of 3 trips, I had to go back twice. Once was because I didn't pick up another box from the warehouse (boxes didn't say one of two etc) and then again because a drawer set was damaged. Rather annoying but their stuff is cheap and better made than most of the argos tat.

Depends on what stuff you are after really.
Personally I wouldnt buy a bed or mattress from them, considering we spend nearly half our lives in bed, its not worth going cheap.
Having said that, I have a book case of theirs and a couple of CD racks. They are plain, simple and do the job ok. They do look a bit soul less though.
In the past I have also had wardrobe and chest of drawers from them, again, simple (apart from the glass fronted sliding wardrobe door which took me a flipping age to put together!) so not so bad.
Like with most things its a bit of a gamble if you have all the bits in the box when you leave and you cant really inspect the boxes before you get out as they are generally sealed up.

Because not everyone can afford bespoke oak furniture?
IKEA's stuff is a bit minimalist (which I prefer to the over-decorated stuff for sale in most shops), and the quality can vary. The very cheap stuff is cheap for a reason, but the mid-range stuff is pretty well made and one assembled is pretty solid. I've got IKEA stuff which is over ten years old and has been through two house moves and it's fine.
For all the jokes about Pikea, it's mostly used by the middle classes rather than poor people. I personally shop there simply because I prefer their stuff to almost any other furniture store I've seen which I can afford (and many I can't).

We bought some of the book cases ages ago and they were quite cheap at about 75 pounds each. Now they've changed the colour to a very dark wood and doubled the price. The same ones are £155 each now.
Some of its good some of its rubbish.
We've got 2 cats which think vomitting is a sign of affection and an 8 year old daughter and her possy of heavy handed mates so I'm not spending too much on the home furnishings.

Have a table and chairs from there, still good and solid 2 years after I bought them.
Used to have some wardrobes and chest of drawers from there when I lived at my parents, again they lasted a few years with no problems.
I think that sometimes in Ikea they don't screw the things tgether as well as they should be, it always seems more sturdy when I put it together myself.
As someone else said I wouldn't buy a bed or matress there, definately something that a decent ammount of cash should be spent on

I bought this, 6' x 6' and have to say it is mega comfy. Not cheap is it was not a kick in the pants off 1k
Like all places, some stuff is good and other dire. Best to go have a look

Are you a tall person though? I always find my feet touch the cold railings at the foot of the bed and it wakes me up! It took me ages to find a decent bed that I liked without anything at the bottom of the bed.

Yup, some of it is very student bedsitty type stuff and I hate the actual layout of the place. I have had some really good bits from there though, recently bought a wardrobe and drawers for my dressing room and I'm very pleased with it. I don't know anywhere else with the same amount of choice so it's definitely worth a look IMO.

Never had a problem with any stuff i have bought from them and some of it is almost 10 years old now, as everyone else has said you just have to check what you are buying, most of the stuff i have bought is all solid wood. Just been in the other day to buy my daughter a new bed, she loves it.
Never had an issue with things missing so i must just be lucky.

Good point. Anyone bigger than 6' will also have the joy of banging their toe off the railings, in their sleep

You get what you pay for, it's as simple as that really.
I kitted out my son's new room when we build the 'east wing' aka the two exrta bedrooms to the right of the stairs! lol.
We used the funky blue furniture range that Ikea has in the children's section, as well as some of their great storage ideas.
It cost about £600 to do the whole room, which considering what we got, it was great! The quality is what i would expect for the price, we have had no issues with it at all.
We have since fitted out living room with some of the gloss back tv units and storage, and again, no problems there.
I find Ikea is really good on storage ideas, and we never fail to find something to meet our needs.

Oh and don't go on a weekend, especially when there's a sale on. The only problems I have had with purchasing are when I get to the end of the shop (after walking round for four hours) and then realising I have forgotten something so it's back to the beginning.

I had a friend I used to err visit and one of the main reasons I stopped seeing her was the fact that she has a similar bed and being 6ft2 meant my feet kept touching the cold steel of the frame and waking me up.
