Thumbs down LOL @ Vodafone. Have to larf, otherwise SCREAM!!!

OK - I'm out of contract. I have been for over 6 months, waiting for a phone to catch my eye. Currently running a silver N95, that's starting to act it's age (30 months old).

Whilst I wanted an iPhone, I refused to be drawn into a £35/month contract.

So, what did Voda have to offer? I looked at the HTC Touch Pro 2.
Almost perfect for what I need - and it's roughly the same size as my N95.

Problem being that it's only available on the Business side of Voda.

Below is a list of the events to date :-

Monday.
Call Voda to upgrade. Want the HTC Touch Pro 2. Can't have it due to consumer contract. Ask to change over to business contract or I walk.
Asked to email Voda with request. Do so.
Mood: - not too bad

Tuesday.
Have a response from Voda - boggo standard answer stating to call Voda with request..... See a pattern here?
Mood: - Getting ratty - perpetual cycle occurring here.....

Wednesday.
Call Voda to discuss the request. Girl suggests Touch Diamond 2...... I caught unawares here - free phone (valued customer apparently), same contract as Wifey, AND £80 buyback on my N95
Mood: - suprise, but pretty chuffed

Ask to think about it.

She calls back later, and I confirm that I'll go ahead with it. I ask her to confirm that it's the HTC Touch Diamond 2. She does.
The phone will be with me some time today.
Mood: - Very happy - bargain

Thursday.
11.00am (can be delivered anytime between 8am - 6pm) - phone turns up!!
Woo Ho...... oh. Get it out of the package - it's a Touch Diamond.
Mood: - annoyed & disappointed

Straight onto Voda.

Speak to the returns bloke - nice chap. The Touch Diamond 2 isn't avaiable to consumers.
Mood: - Red Alert

I tell him that basically I've been mis-sold a product. They either do what they must to resolve the issue, or give me my PAC code.

He then goes through every other phone that Voda do, but I'm not having it. If I'm signing up to a 24 month contract, I want the phone that I'm looking for, not some alternative that won't do.

So, (1) Got to return the Diamond - takes a few days.

(2) Voda email me a load of paperwork with a view to transferring me to a Business contract. (This can take up to 21 days. )
The paperwork is ridiculous - all sorts of credit check stuff. My argument is that I'm a long-term PAYING Vodafone customer. They have 5yrs of history on me. Why need any more?
Mood: - Rage
If I decide to do this, I can have the Touch Pro 2 (however, on their website, it doesn't even look like they do the Diamond 2) - a LOT of effort on my part. Not sure if it's worth the grief tbh.

(3) Latest action is to wait until the phone gets returned and call up the Terminations department.

Grrrrrr

most unimpressed. Shame that O2 don't do iPhone with 300mins/3000text unlimited internet for £25/month. Otherwise I'd be there like a shot.

Don't know tbh - one of my options at the moment, is to **** the whole lot off.

Get a PAYG Sim and run one of the many old brick phones lying around the house.

Don't really want to go to Orange, as they felt my wrath a few years ago. Canceled two high-value contracts, and had the customer services people calling me day after day trying to get me to return **** em

If you really want an iPhone, get a PAYG sim and wait for it to be available. However, take into account its unlikely to be on a cheaper tariff with another carrier.

HTC Hero, Samsung i8910 HD, options?

Thought I would add this link just incase its a deal breaker/maker

Yeh- looked at the Hero, Wifey's got the Magic (oo er), and the Android OS is fantastic. I don't think it's there just yet though.

Heard about TomTom n the iphone (& iGo) - this is what I'm after.
Hence I was looking at the HTC Touch Pro 2...running TomTom Navigator 7.

Best of both worlds tbh, and on the contract I wanted. However, Voda have thwarted my every effort to conclude this route

Samsung phones, I'm still not sure on - Wifey had a few, and whilst she loved them, I just couldn't get on with them. So I'm reluctant to go down that route.

It boils down to either -

1. iPhone (on whoever - the price plans will be the same)
2. HTC Touch Pro 2 - if I can find one on a decent contract/provider.
3. Polystyrene cup and string
4. or wait even longer for something else - BUT I'm not getting into that game of waiting to see around the corner, as I'll never get anything!!LOL!

Everything is around the corner mate, just depends how far you wanna walk lol.
I would find it hard to stay with Voda after than, any carrier for that matter.

If you are serious about the iPhone, just do it, get your PAC and be done with it.

If you wanna look at the HTC Touch Pro 2, have a look at some of the tariff's available.

That's a good website mate

I think I'm going to have to have a darn good think
I'm inclined to agree with you regarding the Voda thing - bit naughty.

However, I'm loathed to spend £35/month on an iphone.
If I could get one for £25, 24month contract, 300mins, 3000 txt and unlimited internet, I would be happy.
This is the contract wifey's got. and it would suit me perfectly.

oh well. Get this albatross sent back first, and take it from there. Was looking forward to playing with a new phone this weekend

best have a beer instead!!LOL!!

I can understand where you are coming from, being tied into a tariff for the sake of a phone.
I stumbled across that website a few months ago, very handy indeed eh

I recently changed an Orange contract to 600 mins / unlimited texts for £25, its a strange world out there. But for the sake of 1-2 quid a month I would rather get the phone that suits me best, on a good tariff.

So thats no to a Blackberry then ? lol

Unhappy

Well, an update on this matter (for anybody who's interested).

The phone mis-sold to me has been returned and sorted out.
However, the story doesn't have a fairy-tale ending.

OK - my old contract is no longer available, and I was out of my 7-day grace period. AND they sent me a courier bill for the mis-sold phone!! Not happy.

The retentions department did come up trumps -

1. Courier charge cancelled.
2. Can't go back to my old contract as they don't do it anymore Stuck on this one but with the next month effectively free.
3. WAS stuck on this contract for 2 yrs (without an upgraded phone!) however, Vodafone have removed my commitment to the contract, so I could still leave if required.

Soo..... to get the Touch Pro 2 (which up to this point I hadn't even held!), I was going to have to transfer to a Business status. Involving paperwork, credit checks and the next 4 days!
To speed the process up, I printed the paperwork off, and took it to my local Vodafone shop for faxing (courtesy of their Business Manager). This was yesterday morning. Not overly convinced that they knew what they were doing, but gave them the benefit of the doubt.

Called Voda today. After 20 mins of being batted around the phone system, I FINALLY spoke to someone in the Business porting section.

They had NO record of an application at all

Just called the Voda shop, spoke to the Business Manager.... He didn't even look at the paperwork yesterday. No communication. nothing. Not even to tell me that he would need a copy of my Driver's License as proof of ID.
Cheeky swine asked me to drop it in today (and it would still take another 4 days from well, Monday....)

Soooo, after much deliberation, I've now wasted a week of my holiday trying to sort this out.....

I've asked for my PAC code, stating the reasons why. I've had enough. I think I've been pretty reasonable about the whole thing.

So, I should get my code in the next week Then off to find someone/something else.

I'm even contemplating a Wifey's sh1tty Samsung U900 with a PAYG sim - I'm that sick and tired of phones. Ones thing's for sure, at the moment, the SIM won't be a Voda one!

Most dejected about the whole thing

Dan

I don't suppose there are any mobile resellers in Scoobynet world who want a sale??

An update for you - had a call from the retentions team today. Usual yadda yadda.....

They asked what they could do to keep me, but after stating what phone I wanted, they couldn't help.
However, the bloke was doing ALL he could to keep me with Voda.

Came up with the following deal.
HTC Magic (not sure about this, even after Wifey has one)
300mins x-network, unlimited text & internet.
18 month contract instead of 24 months
Free Vodafone "Find & Go" satnav turn-by-turn software for the duration. Usually £5/month.
Will also buy by N95 off me.

It's not what I wanted BUT being a fair person, I've said that I'll try it for the next few days, and if I don't like it, I'll still get my PAC code and go.

Thought that was more than reasonable, but I'm giving myself every opportunity to ensure that I'm doing the right thing.

Just not sure to be honest - probably the wrong time to be making decisions about this, as my apathy levels are rather high!!

Wait and see.

I knew you would bend.

How much is the tariff? And how much are they giving you for the N95?

LOL - true. I have bent slightly

Tariff is £24 (not sure how much for the N95 - probably around £90)

I'm doing this so I can demonstrate that I have been willing to let Voda attempt to sort out the problem. I've used Wifey's phone, and I'm not THAT convinced to be honest

Still I have 7 days for it to convince me otherwise.
