the business is plumbing and heating, im wanting to concentrate on the gas side of things boiler repairs, installs, and the like

Try and think of a name as low as you can in the alphabet. AA Plumbing ect.
First page in Yell.
As for a slogan, try not to be too smart, it might raise a smile but not a phone call.

Try something along the lines:

LARGE ENOUGH TO COPE, SMALL ENOUGH TO CARE.

Spot on - alienate half your potential customers!

Ideally you customers and potential customers will remember the strap line for the right reasons. Funnily enough in this day and age both men and women buy this sort of service!


Things to think about - Internet website, not fancy but one that explains what you do - web presence is very important as a lot of people look here, often first. Yellow pages a must for this type of business.

Get you strap line right, not offensive, funny is good but ultimately memorable for the right reasons

Honestly - try something basic like '100% guaranteed to turn up', or 'professional & reliable service - we treat customers like clients'. Differentiate yourself from the less professional people or others I'd never call based on obsessive Yellow Pages listings 'AAA All Call' or 'AAAll about the call out fee'!!!

I cant give away my new bath insurance job at the mo' - recession my arXX!!! They turn up but never a quote!

I am not so sure slogans will do anthing for you they can sometimes be off-putting. I'd forget the jokey ones as no-one wants a clown to come and work on thier gas systems. Your slogan should really be a headline that makes someone remember the name of your business.

Slogans = tie together mixed media advertising / marketing campaigns

Headlines = Gets attention and helps people recall the name of your business

Headlines also need to be unique or personal to your business - lots of them are generic and a waste of time and space - 'your number 1 choice' meaningless and used by thousands of businesses.

your business and your choice of course - so to give you what you asked for here are some things I have seen on various tradesmens vehicles.
