Totally agree
They seem to make programmes about anything these days, and channels for just about everything
I don't bother with the TV anymore as all I do is channel surf and won't watch anything for more than 5 minutes, I will however sit and watch films etc so its not an attention thing

Morcome & Wise used to get 20million tuning in, not because it was the only thing on TV but because it was a class show. Fond memories of their Christmas specials......

It's mostly been dross for as long as I can remember, only now there's 200 channels of dross instead of just 3/4/5 (delete as whenever you class the golden age of tv to have been ).

Its kind of overwhelming, I have posted along similar lines before, I used to get something and make the most of it, get a game, play it to death, get a video and watch it, watch a whole programme on telly !
I think our culture has gone to instant gratification in everything but in the long term having more means we do less.
I remember going to watch telly and could decide whether there was anything on, very quickly, 1,2,3 and later on 4 and you could look at the tv times, now its just overkill and Sky doesnt let you narrow your list to what you want and ignore the others, I dont need QVC, Al Jazeera and all the other irrelevant sh1te, I dotn want it in the list, just what I choose.
I think we are loosing the common ground that tv brought with it, the did you see thing, when there were only a few channels then you had a chance of a friend or colleague having seen the same thing, now its all a bit solitary, Top Gear is the nearest we have ! its lost all sense of occasion, the announcer and all that, suppose its still there but its not the same.
Perhaps its just the prepetual nostalgia you get as you age where everything was better before, I am sure I will in 15 years get misty eyed over what we have now.

Used to get excited about legging it back from school for the couple of hours of childrens TV.Even Newsround was exciting (ish)
Saturday was what we waited for...Swap shop and Tiswas!
Sunday...Lone Ranger, maybe some flash gordon, otherwise it was Tarzan.
When telly was finished, you entertained yourself, used your imagination either being the Lone Ranger or Tarzan (cold in winter though in your trunks on and with your Sheath Knife on a belt )
Now our kids could watch it 24/7 if we let them!
