Blair says new arrivals must conform to our society
BBC NEWS | Politics | Conform to our society, says PM
At last it looks like Tony is admitting that all is not rosy in the multi-cultural garden. Finally it would appear it is politically correct to discuss immigrants with respect to them adopting our values when they come here. Better late than never, but these sorts of issues should have been addressed by the government a long time ago. His 'advisors' must have told him that the silent majority has its concerns.

Yeh agree with UB. That Shit head will leave us and our kids to live the legacy of his disasterous time at # 10.
My only consolation is that his is lumbered with a £15,000 / month mortgage on a property now worth 1/2 what he paid for it.

I agree that Blair and the rest of New Labour have left this country with a lasting legacy. It was always said that Tony was obssessed with his 'place in history' so to speak - I doubt we will ever forget the impact of his and the rest of NL's time in office - but not for the right reasons.
I imagine this big change of tone on multi-culturalism is probably because they are worried about people flocking to the right to vote in protest, but either way - atleast these issues are now being discussed. I hope people generally take note also that raising concerns about immigration doesn't mean your automatically a 'racist' either.

rearrange the words to make a well know phrase or saying Blair you dummkopff!
Too late he and his monkeys have had 8 years to sort this out.

Since he and the idiot president have been fingered by the new US Defence Secretary, there is no way that they can continue to prevaricate abut the Iraq war disaster for which they are wholly responsible.
We will probably see a slow climbdown over the awful effects of the war and the present civil war which they caused to start up. They won't admit to that of course and will gradually talk around it so that eventually they will be saying what heros they were for attacking Iraq illegally anyway! All done in the best NL tradition of doublespeak!

It is simple
Conform, accept and fit in, obey the prevail laws and traditions of the land or go elsewhere where you will find the ways more to your liking.

JJ,
Now there is a really stupid post from you. You are guilty of the same NL speak as your heros. If you can't see what is really happening then you deserve the government that you are getting!
You should never let your prejudice colour the true facts of the matter. Why do you think we are now a major target for the terrorists as well as carrying the responsiblity for the many many thousands of civilian deaths during and after the Iraqi war and the destruction of the country? Think again about the real reasons for attacking Iraq against the resolutions passed by the Security Council which we were signed up to!

Why accuse me of being prejudiced when I am speaking with the evidence of undeniable fact f1 fan.
What J4CKO says has a lot of truth in it as well but we have given them the best excuse possible to attack us. I wonder why there is a move towards Shariah Law when they want the freedom that we are supposed to have-for the moment anyway.

Les - I think regardless of the Iraq war we would still be having issues. Whilst it may have been a bit of a catalyst, that's not the root of the problem so to speak.
Some of the new cultures in our country are very particular and difficult to compromise with - we would of run into difficulties regardless... unfortunately our government were unable to use common sense and realistic thinking to forsee this! They started off this experiment - who knows what instore for the future.

Did anyone posting on this thread actually hear his speech?
He never said "new arrivals must conform to our society"; what he SAID was (not verbatim) something like, "this country's values are based upon tolerance - if you do not share these views, then don't come here".
That statement has a very different meaning.
