Like old Thatch, I'm a firm believer in no rights without obligations. That's where almost all countries in Europe have gone wrong to be honest. If people are not prepared to try to work and contribute to society, then they have no rights to lean on the welfare state in any shape or form.

Keep in mind that the U.S. economy is based on continued (selected and unselected) immigration and is actually doing quite well . I would also say they have got their rights vs obligations mix right, but could do better with their social cohesion policies.

I'm used to the Glasgow/West of Scotland variety and really miss it as I live in Cheshire and it doesn't appear on menus anywhere south of about Motherwell.

Any recommendations - or even better, recipes?

Here you go. I just ripped it from Google, but it looks like a good 'un. If your rectum survives the chillies, please come back and tell how it went!


Pakoras - Vegetable Pakora

Ingredients
2 cups of vegetables, cut into large pieces
(You can use green bell pepper, cauliflower, onions, etc)
1 cup besan(bengal gram flour)
1/4 cup water
2 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp cumin seeds
A pinch of hing(asoefetida)
Salt to taste
Oil for deep frying

Method
Made a thick batter with the water, flour, red chilli
powder, cumin, hing and salt.
Coat each vegetable piece with this batter and deep fry.
Serve with tomato ketchup.

a little bit like statistics the respondents to this thread tend to show that you are not in the majority.

The great thing about this country is that you can actually have a view and freely share it. I am sure there are other countries where you could live and have a great time. Having been to many of them they have issues and challenges too.

America is misdirecting political currency to the Middle East as a clear domestic focus would reveal a country about to go completely bust.

South America is a gamble pretty much wherever you go.

Africa could be great but you would be deeply isolated.

Europe is growing up pretty much like the UK.

Eastern Europe/Russia is the new Wild West.

China is the new Hong Kong.

India has 500 million people who can't afford to eat.

South East Asia is politically difficult and volatile.

And Australia won't let you in.

There we go - stereotyped the whole globe on the same basis that the UK is **** - oh, I forgot, the Artic is too cold even though it is melting and Antartica really is too cold.
