SDS Drill - Rotary or hammer stop???
Hello SNetters,
Want an SDS drill to chase walls for electrics etc.
Bought a Ryobi from Screwfix, but found out today it does not have the chiselling function (I asked them prior to ordering, and they said it did
).
So, now want to move the stakes up and buy a better model, it must have the chiselling facility............ so...........
WTF is the difference between hammer stop and rotary stop please???
I have searched t' net for last 30 mins, I cannot find the answer.
What one is best suited to my DIY needs? (I will be chasing lots of walls). What one is better? (Rotary stop seems to be more expensive).

I would imagine that "hammer stop" means that you can choose between rotary drilling with and without hammer. "Rotary stop" should mean that you have the previous functions plus hammering without rotation.

Quite simple:
Rotary stop means you can stop the rotary action (hammer only...i.e chisell)
Hammer stop means you can stop teh hammer action (normal drill for steel or wood)
I have a £25 NuTool that seems to do more than your Ryobi
I can stop hammer AND rotary at the same time. so teh motor just spins and does nothing...great at fooling the missus into thinking your doing some DIY

I use bosch 2-20 with the chisel function and it works very well,i saw some where that was selling them for £80 the other day.

rotary stop= that bit at the buisness end of the drill stops spinning, you fit an SDS chisel attachment, it'll just about shift calcified spunk from the underside of your desk, ironicly, most SDS roto-stpop functions are not worth a ****..
Hammer stop = hammer stop. Rotation only, drilling metal and wood with an SDS chuck adaptor.
The other setting = it spins and hammers. ideal for those red plasic things you hammer into walls.
lots of chases to do?...in blockwork?..get a chaser .

This is a good one to get it has done a lot of hard work for years..

Jimi is right on the money..
the bloke has a load of chases to do. so he spends 80 quid?? on a rather warm?? ebay HILTI, does the job he needs with it ( in half the time he'd spend faffing about with a squagimoshi piece of **** fron screwfix ), gives it a blast with the old WD40, then bangs it back on ebay for 80 quid.

But guys... as the first post asks????
I want a chisel action, but I also want it to drill into walls, I don't want a recommendation on the manufacturer, I just want to know what rotary and hammer stop mean.
Anybody???

Ali-B, not ignoring you... just not understanding you!
Too late for me now... Had too many Stella's... I'm going to ask a simple Q...
All SDS drills have normal drilling & hammer drilling....
Some have hammer stop only
Some have rotary stop only (from what I can read!)
What do I need for chiselling into plaster, concrete, etc, for DIY work? I am assuming rotary stop is the best to get, can someone please clarify.

ROTARY STOP: means the chuck stops turning. It still hammers. It's for chiselling, etc.
So NOW which do you need? Obviously, rotary stop.
