M1 Jct 9-10, Why so many accidents
Almost everyday you hear of accidents on this stretch of the M1 and the past three times i've been through there their have been multiple accodents on either side, I presume the fact there are accidents both side could be rubber necking but on a lot of occassions they are a mile or so apart and cant be blamed on that.
I find difficult to understand is how a 3-4 mile stretch of straight road with excellent visibility can be such a blackspot for accidents, any theories? clueless drivers, lack of concentration because its a straight road and they just switch off, or just feckin useless drivers

5 years I have been doing this.......and I still have no conclusion.
I think they should reduce the speed limit to 40mph from J12 of the M1 to the M25 during 6am-9am.

Anyway, just have a good police presence to police the road and monitor the traffic etc., and they'll eventually figure out what the causes are. Although it'll make more money if they just bung in some speed cameras

You wait until they start widening it from junc10 to 13 thats when the accidents will start They are moving the entrace to Toddington services both sides because they are too close to junc12 exits, gonna be 4 lanes either side

It's blindingly obvious what the cause is. People still half asleep, or distracted by their thoughts, driving too close to car in front. The car in front brakes, and the girl behind who's adjusting her make-up, or the chap staring off into oblivion drives straight into back of them.
Everyone drives far too close to each other on that stretch, the speed is immaterial if people don't leave enough distance to the vehicle infront.

But, it's very very busy and often and a stand still from J11. Keeping a speed limit of 40mph would hopefully keep it moving, and stop this stop sart crap I have to do for 11 miles!
