Angry F**KING artic drivers on Dual Carriageways

As an opposite to the thread on overtaking, why do wagon drivers insist on hogging both lanes of dual carriageways for miles at a time when there is a minute difference between the speeds their governors will allow them to attain

BTW To the two tesco drivers who occupied over 6 miles overtaking and re-overtaking each other on the A34 past Newbury yesterday, I hope it took you a f**king long time to regain your 56.33mph after the p!ssed off bloke in the Merc estate got ahead of you then slowed you down to 25 at the foot of that hill

i agree, theres just no need to pass each other, it makes a few seconds difference at the end of the journey. Theyre speeds are the same.

like the bit about the merc slowing em down before the hill, excellent

Tesco artics! On the A9 between Perth and Inverness they stick rigidly to 40 mph on the single carriageway sections. OK, it may be the limit, but every other wagon on the road is keeping up a sensible speed.

The queues - and suicidal overtaking manoevres - have to be seen to be believed.

I confess, 'twas me in the Benz

And yes, revenge was indeed sweet, the flashing lights and blaring horn from the leading wagon driver just added to the sweetness

I remember a similar (ish) incident to this ages ago. It was coming into Nottingham on the A614, 2 lane sectoin near Ikea. This stoooopid artic decided that he was going to overtake another one.

I had to sit behine this prat for totally ages, neither of them managing to do more than 45mph. Anyway it was up a big hill, and when, finally the idiot that could just not wait to overtake finally managed to get in front, what did I do???

You guessed it, pulled in front, nailed the brakes, took him down to a dead stop allowing the previously overtaken artic to overtake him Status quo. He gained nothing in the end, and I got my revenge.

Mind you I think I did get the paint on the back of my car burned off from his headlights. He did seem to be a little over enthusiastic about using them

Immature I know, but it was fun. And yes, to those that take a dim view of things I did take care to ensure nobody was put in any danger (other than me with a large artic rammed up my butt).

Must be a bitch driving those HGV's though mustn't it? Imagine having the same very low top speed as every other driver.
Then imagine how frustrating it is to be stuck behind some other driver with a full load or slower accelerating cab and following them for over 100 miles. Would drive me mad.

Also drives me mad being stuck behind one but I always try to think calm thoughts and let them get on with it.

It can be when you are on a 2 lane Autovia and they are in tandem locked in some grim battle to overtake.

My point is life is a bitch for these folk and when they eventually move over what better way to dispell stress than nailing it in the appropriate gear back to legalish speeds.

Instead of childishly slowing the ******* down and creating bad feeling for everyone involved.

Sometimes when I say **** like this I start to think I've driven too many miles and clocked up too much experience. Preaching tolerance, WTF next I'll be inviting some estate dwelling scumbags out for champagne and canapes.

So everyone on here overtakes perfectly then? No one ever wanted to get in front of the car ahead that's only going a little slower....?

HGV drivers are ALL professional drivers - they have had to take at least one additional driving test - and the road is their workplace. How impatient are you all at work?

Of course it can be a bit frustrating when they're overtaking, but what's it adding to your journey? A couple of minutes?

'Revenge' may have been sweet for you - but it makes me question whether you're old enough to hold a driving licence. I thought we left the whole "he started it" in the playground.....apparently not.

I cover 30,000+ miles a year on the roads and watching people (usually men) performing their silly 'revenge' stunts is truly pathetic - not to mention dangerous. Not that many of the 'men' around here care.

Oh so people who live in a housing estate are scumbags i reckon you are racist. I think you should be out more often instead of sitting behind your ballot box pal.

I'd refer you to my post above, last time I checked I qualified as a 'man' (in every sense of the word baby). What I do have in common with you though is about yrs of high mileage driving experience, much of it across the world.

It's not possible to be racist in respect of your comment-we aren't talking about race.Perhaps you mean prejudiced?
Just to clarify I mean the type of small minded people who live on a new build estate, think they are 'middle class' and sneer at the working classes out of the windows of their financed X5's on their way to B&Q or a Harvester or whatever you people do these days.

Oh and I AM prejudiced against those people.

2 days in a row that I've agreed with New Labour (can't last - I voted Green! )

Oh - and I genuinely keep a pot of bubbles in the car to blow out the window when stuck in traffic - very calming - and confuses the **** out of everyone around! (But keeps kids in other cars occupied!)

Lol I voted Lib Dem (tactical vote keep the tories out) so what does that prove! I hate them as well and would have voted for the "revolutionary anarchist smash everything" party had one existed.

Yeah, but its more than annoying when they do it deliberately to hold you up. Then laugh at you when you pass them.....

Thats what did it for me. No way was I going to let that prat hold me up, then laugh at me. Revenge was most definately the order of the day. After all, if they keep getting away with it, they will keep doing it.

I imagine it brightens their day up a bit, just overtake when they eventually move over assured in the knowledge you don't spend your life driving some huge piece of crap limited to 56mph.

Probably better for your health as well, I rarely get road ragey these days, I let all the bile out on here!

Yes, you are of course right NL. I know that, most sane people know that.

Normally I do not react like that, I used to suffer from the "red mist" a lot more than I do now. It was just the guys face when he was laughing at me when I eventually past him, pushed me over the edge.....

Even though I doubt that I would ever do that again, it still puts a smile on my face 6 years later. The sight of him, and his smoking artic as I left him crawling up the hill.....immature I know.

I think I shall also take it out on here more often instead

I like to think of my time stuck behind an artic as a chance to demonstrate the mid range grunt of my car to everyone in the vicinity.

Get's my rocks off far better than p1ssing off some minimum wage meathead in his truck, his life is already crap enough without me sticking my oar in.

Fair enough - but I think you'll find most Class 1 HGV drivers earn a shed load more than minimum wage!!

Edited to add - with a Hazchem certificate you are looking at salary north of £30K

You reckon, the only HGV drivers I know work massively long hours (time spent away from home or where they would otherswise be) so when you tally it up they earn **** all.

If you wanted me to sleep in a little box above one of those cabs I'd be expecting a lot of money for it.

You can get 30K working in a supermarket or IT support- either preferable to dealing with hazchem or a lifetime of frustration on the M-Way.

I was travelling along a dual carriage way to Kidlington. Two artics, sat side by side neither gaining nor slowing. (I was behind, in the right hand side lane.) This continues for around 1.5 to 2 miles, masses of traffic forming behind.

Two motorcycle police storm past, one on each side of me. One of them overtakes the artic on the right, on the white line rumble strip. Signals very intently for the artic to move over.

Traffice backlog begins to flow again.
