Default Cavity Wall insulation

Anyone had it done ?

We live in a detached 1930's 4 bed house, we pay 55 quid a month for gas (heating + gas hob, everything else electric) and it still goes into arrears so I am looking at getting it cavity sealed, the loft seems well insulated mainly due to the ammount of crap up there !

I live in a 1930s semi as well, we had cavity wall insultation done last year. You can actually get a grant towards it from your local council if you are lucky. I think it cost us about £90 in the end and it was done in a day. I can track down the number of the people that did it if you need it.

You need to see what grant scheme is available locally.

I had priced up a couple of firms to do mine when someone suggested speaking to our local council.
I'm having cavity wall insulation as well as the loft insulation replaced and it isn't going to cost me a penny.

Cheers

Lee, will check with the council, just spoke to British Gas and it seems fairly cheap anyway but will still check as free is always better than cheap !

British Gas reckoned about 400 quid for Cavity and loft insulation, I can live with that.

Jye some local authorities offer grants over and above what's available nationally. The area where I live, over the last few years, has had a sizable amount of European grant money for new road and rail links. There has been a lot done in the area so I'm not sure if it has something to do with that.
You don't have to be on benefits, my salary is over £45k.

wall cavity insulation is not always the best approach. try putting a good layer of loft insulator up. Heat rises, doesnt go sideways. Are you warmer in bed with blankets at the side of you or on top of you?

Lucky bu**er. We live in a 1950's semi and don't have the luxury of gas heating. Use storage heaters and it costs us over £100/mth in electicity charges and the house is still freezing!

We have cavity insulation and double glazing but have been advised to get loft insulation.

Our neighbours have loft and cavity insulation and have just installed Oil heating and it looks like it will cost them £800/year for heating and hot water. I know oil is a lot more expensive than gas.
