Escape to the chateaux, I presume? Wouldn’t class her as a personality but more of a interior designer that’s quirky just for the sakes of being quirky and landed a hubby with the money and links to make her visions a reality.
Prefered ‘Dick’ on scrapheap challenge. TBH
One thing I noted with these programs of Brits faffing about with old buildings in France; Not a single hint of buildings control or the equivalent of English Heritage to undermine all efforts of practical building restoration....Back in Blighty I can’t even trim a tree in my garden without council ‘permission’ from a bloke who knows **** all about trees. Same in Spain, first sign of a skip out the front and the Guardia Civil are sniffing round, as well as frequent spotter planes looking out for building work and illegally felled treee. *****.

Planning permission in France, even for a building located in one of their parcs nationales, consists of filling in a brief form, taking a photo of where the change will be, copying it and drawing on it what you want to do, then submitting it.
You get permission in writing about six weeks later.
