Idiots, buy a hybrid and dont exploit the battery. I rarely exceed the battery mileage in any one journey, so I comfortably get 100+mpg equivalent. However if i have to do say a 100 mile journey then mpg is around 40mpg

Electric solely is much better option, we predominantly use the Leaf over any of our other vehicles, so much so, its got 14k miles in just over 6 months of ownership.

Virtually everyone forgets, 95% of all car journeys are less than 30miles. The only sector where hybrids and electric are not suitable are commercial, sales reps etc. They're suitable for most drivers .

Yet its mainly z list celebs and old fuddy duddys with too much money and time , attempting to kid themselves and saps around them that they are Green to be rolling down to the shops in one couple times a week - in between their fleet of V8's

Bit off subject but: Have been supplied with two hire cars recently. One is small diesel engined. The other is hybrid petrol. Same journeys and driver (me). Diesel returns 64mpg. Hybrid 52. Am I missing something about hybrid benefits?

Yes, they are meant for local journeys or you keep the battery in reserve to enter a ULEZ. Petrol generally isnt as fuel efficient as diesel. Thats not what its about, it particulates from diesel. My XC90 averages 40mpg on long runs, which is far better than my old Q7 3.0 and 4.2 audi diesels from a number of years back which ave 30mpg/27 mpg respectively.

My E63 will return low 30's mpg on a long run(100+ miles), and I know what I'd rather be in vs a Nissan Leaf

We dont use the Leaf for trips of more than 50 miles, that is where it excels.

C02 is the way forward. Removes it from the air so that's good news. And no charging stations all over the place. Just add them onto petrol forecourts.
