drone flyers
any drone flyers around the forum? just bought my second one, phantom 3 advanced. great drone and the range is fantastic with the lightbridge and great images with its 2.7k camera. sold on my phantom 2 vision plus to a friend as the video feed range was letting it down with it being wifi and i felt restricted to what i could do with it. its not so much that i want to fly great distances its more the video dropping out randomly which can be quite alarming at times if over water etc. heres a short video i made flying around the platforms in my local port. feel free to post any vids if you have made any i love watching them.

nice footage m8 and shows what the mavic can do. nice time lapse scene as well. the zoom seemed a bit jerky tho bud or was that just post video processing ? i dont work on the rigs mr fuji just thought they would be cool to fly around as it was getting dark and they look awsome at night all light up.

Thanks got myself a Mavic Air recently for a bargain so couldn’t resist. I’ve not read any of the manual yet to see about using all the modes/features. Creativity isn’t a strong point for me so taking the video footage I get and editing it is going to take a lot of practice and looking at others videos to get ideas. Plus I only used Microsoft Movie Maker to do it so need to see what the best free software is.

i used vdsc free editor to do the rigs video i posted. i paid 20 quid to unlock all the features but you don,t have to its still free for basic usage. i joined the phantom pilots forum and posted mine there but man there,s some awesome videos on their site totally put mine to shame and made it look so amateur ! i also need to start playing around with camera settings to get the best images i can as there,s lots of vids on you tube showing settings to use etc.

I got a cheap set the other week, nd4/8/16 and same polarised versions. Im going to get a better set for the summer, anyway.. Being able to shoot 4k at 30 fps with 1/60 shutter speed the footage is amazing, without the filter the shutter speed is over 1000. You get the better cinematic effect with the filters.

iso and shutter speed basically let in more light but the image can get overexposed so the nds filters help with that by blocking out certain amounts of light as they come in different grades of darkness. read a wee bit about it but def need to read some more.

Been thinking about getting a drone, possibly a Mavic Spark, don't want to spend a huge amount and would like it small enough to be able to fit in a backpack. What's the ins and out of the regulation surrounding flying drones? I hear that one needs a licence and take a competency exam and can only fly in certain areas. Cheers.
ps, Shutter speed generally needs to be twice that of the frame rate, ie, 30fps and 1/60 shutter for that cinematic look and for realistic/natural motion blur. 24fps is considered the defacto frame rate for that cinematic look.

Get the air over the spark mate. I had one before nice little drone.
You only need a pfco if you are using the drone commercially otherwise you just follow the drone code. There may be some registration scheme starting at some point but there isnt one yet so dont fall for the registration scam sites.

Ok so for just recreational use, there's no need for a licence or a pilot assessment to fly one but may be necessary in the future.
I've done a few vids with my old GoPro and my Pixel 2 phone but recently upgraded the GoPro to a GoPro Hero 7 and looking to get a mirrorless camera too.
I do all my editing on Davince Resolve. It's a professinal grade editor that's not too difficult to use but really powerful with what you can do and used in many film/movie productions. I've just scraped the surface and still learning it. Best of all its completely free and there is a paid for studio version which has more features. But the free version has more than enough to colour correct and grade any video footage for really decent videos. It's not too difficult to use but obviously there is steep learning curve however there's also a lot of yourtube tutorial videos, go check it out.
