Woke up yesterday fine, forward to around lunch driving kids out i felt like I had lost a contact lens (eyes are shocking without lenses or glasses, you wouldn't drive!). Stopped at mcds in Skipton, went to rest room, both lenses are in tact but left eye hugely dilated. I swapped the lenses around (both +2.5). Bright light was really annoying so kept in the restaurant shaded area, the feeling was when you have been is very dark place and you walk out in to the sun, your eyes take a while to adjust. Anyway it didn't get any better so I started thinking back what could it be, but nothing I can put my finger on specifically. Drove steady away to the nearest bowling alley, spent around an hour inside with the kids (originally destination) where it was relatively dark and it seem to settle, focus was getting better and the lights were not annoying. On the way home in the car (20 minutes drive) I felt the same discomfort but now both eyes dilated, so i went up to lay down with my eyes closed for an hour, still no bette.r, However last night watching TV I wasn't too bad (dark room), however looking at my phone was impossible (unable to read text and the screen is too bright). Went to bed and woke up this morning hoping it would be back to normal, but it's still the same.... I don't Google symptoms of anything as it will always tell you the worst, but I did on this occasion and it could be literally 100's of thing.

,Has anyone else experienced this?? Really struggling so I ain't driving now.

Will visit my local optometrist in the morning..

I'm on daily disposable lenses, same batch I've been using for a month. Last and only time I had a minor brain injury was 15 years ago.

That is a good point. No I don't take any drugs at all, don't smoke and rarely drink (generally binge when I do). I very rarely take any type of oral medication either, a handover is generally left to sort itself out. The last two weeks I have not had a drop to drink.

I have been to the optometrists today for a quick appointment, he wants me back tomorrow for a full eye exam. The basic exam today showed nothing and he was puzzled as to why the pupils were so dilated. He hasn't asked me what you have, but I will be sure to tell him anything.

Friday night I binged on TV and Sugar foods, I was painting with a Satin like gloss on Friday lunch time but nothing near my eyes, and the lenses I am using now I have been using for 3-4 weeks, only changed as they are slightly softer and more comfortable, but are the same brand as per previous 2 years. Not been stressed that I can put my finger on, but at the moment I am under a little more pressure that I have been before (Marriage failing) but I am managing this well in my own mind so I cannot see it being a neurological reason. I was involved in a RTA some 15 years ago, and I noticed the scar on my head is becoming more visible as my hair line moves back, but then also noticed that I have a crease in the skull showing more than even in my forehead which wasn't there a few years ago.

Clutching at straws really, I generally eat well, workout 5 x a week, 6ft and around sub 15 stone - so slightly heavier than I should be but I am working on that...... I have no idea.

Sorry but I was not implying drug use but certain medications can be pretty powerful. Like any long term product manufacturers can change very small elements and this could of effected the eyes, it could just have been a random batch of contact lenses.

Neurological issues can be long term but you seem to be managing quite well. Hopefully just a minor issue, something as silly as poking your eye when sleeping.

I didn't take it wrong mate, you are right to ask. No not taking anything at all. Even now I have zoomed in the text and I am struggling to focus on the pc screen. I have some of my old type contact lenses kicking around, I might try those later to see if that makes any difference to the focus. Glad I am being examined tomorrow as it is really fecking annoying.

Update.

Eyes examination report the backs of eyes are fine, had several tests which all came back good, and my prescription has changed ever so slight, so it would appear my eyes are in as good as possible order as they can be. He is concerned that my right eye is getting more lazy and the pupil dilation was unknown (showed him the pictures), so he's referring me to an eye doctor and neurological department in the next day or two....

He told me not to worry, 90% of the time it's just an infection that clears up on its own. I ain't concerned.... Yet!

Just a thought, If I had a problem with one eye, the last thing I would do is swap my lenses over!

If it is an infection, surely the best medium for transferring it from one eye to the other is the fluid on a used contact lens

You are probably right, but at first I thought it was just an irritation (I get them rarely, probably just a eye lash trapped under), hindsight

This morning I felt 99% back to normal, and then I got a call from my local hospital asking me to attend an appointment at 11:30 (40 minutes drive with 60 minutes notice!), luckily for me my job is relatively flexible! They conducted similar tests to the Optometrist yesterday, and then in go three lots of drops.... That was exciting - I drove to the hospital, and I couldn't see **** all after they went in - what a sight for sore eyes! I sat in the car for 30 minutes until it cleared enough for me to safely drive back to work where I have done bugger all for the last few hours as I couldn't read small print.

Anyway they haven't found anything and will be asking me to attend another appointment for a field test - pretty sure this was done yesterday too.

So I am just going to get on and keep an eye out (punt intended) for anything similar again.

This happened to my friend two years ago..One of his had a constricted pupil, the other was dilated..It was a condition called aniscoria, but i think there are a few other conditions such as Horner's syndrome...
His enlarged pupil does not constrict properly which causes him vision problems on bright days or going from a dark room to light etc..
If it persists for 24 hours i would see your doctor. It could be something and nothing but dilation or constriction of the pupils can indicate an underlying medical condition.
Get it checked out mate for your own peace of mind. Best of luck.

I've another appointment for early September for a field test, I'll just keep a check on what I'm doing and what I've done, eaten, been subject too if it raises it's bloody problems again.

Fingers crossed it was just a one off.

My wife has this; she was hit in the eye by a champagne cork, her retina partially detached, and the pupil is permanently dilated; the penalty of a party lifestyle! !

About 2 or 3 times this year, I've had something similar. Its like after bright light being shone at your eye but it stays for about 30/45 mins. Really disorientating. Keep meaning to get my eyes tested.

Do it, Opticans can pick up many health issues through eye checks, and that does`nt sound right

I hope you've stopped driving? You should seek medical assessment and only drive if passed medically fit.

What make of contacts are you wearing? I only ask as I had similar problems a few months ago. I used to use Daysoft comfort lenses, but they changed the ingredients that the lenses are sat in, and gave me nothing but problems. Had to stop wearing contacts completely, and even went to enquire about having lase surgery, as I'm not comfortable wearing glasses at all. After reading reviews etc on the internet, I found I wasn't alone ans plenty of people were suffering the same issues - Switched from Daysoft comfort to Daysoft classic and the problem was solved - Still had to use hayfever drops until the infection had cleared though before I could wear lenses again..

I'm have been wearing day soft silk for a few years, then switched to Classic as my eyes were getting dry and tired. No issues from the go, and where I would generally get dry eye (air con areas) my new lenses felt a little better. I was three weeks in when this issue occurred so I ruled it out otherwise it would have done it sooner??

My prescription has just changed slightly, so I ordered some new lenses in my new prescription +3.50 and +3.25 (usually wear +2.50 in both eyes), I'm wearing then now and they do seem a little better, but after only 6 hours my eyes are getting tired, but I have been in the car for 3 hours with air con so it might be that. Try again tomorrow, glasses going on soon.
