The dominant feature of Mr Smith’s contract was that he must do the work himself

wear a company branded uniform and to lease one of its vans

had to work a minimum number of hours per week

suffered a heart attack in January 2011 and later sought to work three days per week instead of five..........Pimlico Plumbers refused to grant Mr Smith’s request and took away his branded van

nobody can say thats self employed

I once knew a plumber called Gary.

He installed a LPG combi boiler using 5 BBQ regulators connected together via a home made manifold and connected it to Butane cylinders! He also installed a heating system drain at waist level

branded stuff isn't unusual staff or contract so thats a bit of a non issue. Lease wise i expect it would end as soon as his contract was finished with the company.

Minimum hours, well thats the companies prerogative. if his current contract says he has to do X hours and he can't full fill those hour then he needs to look elsewhere. Company has to give him the correct notice according to his signed contract.

As a contractor i bet he was pulling alot more money than a staff member and getting tax breaks because of it as well.

He's just shafted contract workers full stop if, companies wont pay the high rates they do if they then have to take on the extra costs.
