Default home air-con units

so ive always struggled in the heat so ive been looking at home air-con units.

has anybody got one?

we have indoor house cats so we cannot use the versions that you run a pipe out of the window.

budget around £200-£250

The house here has central air or we would just die in the summer when it's 45c That's not much help but we do have one of those ones that hangs out a hole in the wall in our little outhouse place where we have our washer and dryer. Only $300 or something.

That's not much help at all, I know but I have also seen floor standers that go for like $280, so there must be some in your price range in the UK. Not sure about having one without a hose though...
