Default Please sign my petition against Mayor Khan's ULEZ zone extension

The extension of the London ULEZ zone to the North and South Circular Roads will price working Londoners off the roads !!
Even if you live nowhere near London I urge you to please sign my petition ..because if this goes through you can bet they will be rolling it out to a town/city near you !! Stealth Tax & NOTHING to do with air quality ..Also , what provisions have been made by Transport For London to accomodate the extra commuters on tubes , trains & buses ?? NONE WHATSOEVER !!

Myself and my partner have 3 cars - 1 petrol and 2 diesels, none are compliant under the scheme. Under the ULEZ proposals, we would have to pay £12.50 per day per car to have those cars within the zone!

Alternative is to sell them, as no-one would want to shell out £4.5k a year per car. But why should we as it will cost a lot of money to replace them?

I cycle to work every day (train/tubes are cr@p) and I notice the pollution, so on the other hand am pleased they're trying to do something about it but I would start with the multitude of BUSES on the roads these days, spewing out masses of fumes (not the hydrogen ones obviously), far more than a whole number of cars.

It's point that is lost on many: A car and using it for daily commuting within a city is a luxury and a privilege.

Puff's point about the buses is a valid one: There are many going round with defective pollution control systems, and I know from mechanics that work within the industry in my area (not London) that some operators have disabled the AdBlue system, they also disabled the start-stop. These vehicles, along with taxis need much more stricter emissions testing to ensure they still comply with EU5/6.

I quite like France's 'Crit-Air' Vignette system: It bans more polluting vehicles (petrol and diesel) from certain zones in cities and also has the ability to enforce further bans when pollution is high. This IMO is better than the 'Discourage via tax' methods used in the UK. It also gives the theoretical scope to retrofit older vehicles with better pollution control.

London residents within the larger ULEZ will get a 3 year sunset clause allowing them time to get rid of their polluting vehicles for a new low/zero emission vehicle.

I can recommend the 2018 Leaf

Well, tbh the London air is disgusting, so something needs to be done.

I don't see a problem with these kind of charges, myself... There's so much public transport to use in London - it'd be different if it was out in the sticks where there aren't buses, trains, DLR or the tube (or even river boats).

I think a daily charge is better than an outright ban myself - that way people can make a choice as to what car to drive, rather than being forced to change if they need to make an occasional journey into the big smoke.

It's not just London, all cities, towns must enforce the banning of all vehicles unless they are ultra, ultra low or zero emission.

Yes, now

Just needs a few cameras and an app for drivers to pay massive fee to enter a town. That will soon deter drivers of polluting vehicles from coming near town/cith

If they're commuter vehicles, charge at home overnight like most already do. if you live and work within a city or town walk, cycle, public transport.

Remember 95% of all journeys per day are less than 30miles. That is about once a week charge

Anyone living near one of these must be feeling a little concerned, when all these zero polluting vehicles take to the road.

Well if it means clean air for London, what's the problem!, at least the housing going be cheaper up north.

At least they're trying https://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/...-drop-25-year/

The Uk is generating more and more electricity from renewable sources first time it hit 50% last year. Only to get larger supplies. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-40198567

Bus low emission tech is here now

https://www.lowcvp.org.uk/Hubs/leb/Home.htm

There are tax benefits for going ultra low emissions

https://www.gov.uk/government/latest...ssion-vehicles

It just general apathy, couldn't careless attitude. You and I will be forced to go ultra low/zero emission or be forced off the road.

Not this crap again For starters people don’t tend to live near power stations (with the exception of Didcot and a small number of others). Then there’s the fact that the emissions per unit output are significantly lower for power stations.

Oh and that the uK doesn’t really use coal power anymore (unless it’s uncharacteristically cold)...

When it last snowed heavily (1st March 2018), 26% of the national grid was powered via coal.

I specifically recall telling Andy not to plug his Leaf in to charge until the gas fueled power stations had come back on-line

Anyway, it's comforting to know that we still have capacity when the gas supply suffers (for now).

We could always cut down few more hardwood forests if we need to

( the ones that produced the coal to start with )
