Don't know what it is JT, the torch forums are buzzing.
It could be that flood torches that turn night to day give you a feeling of being a god. My 360 lumen Nitecore keychain light can light up an entire car park. A few years back 360 Lumens was a very bright torch.

I'm liking the sound of it. Do you have a link to purchase the key chain light like yours? That's if it's not too dear.

There are several colours and even a 240 lumen CRI version which has a warmer tint. It has USB charging too!!! The earlier versions used a lot of battery in lockout mode and sometimes it can turn on in the pocket.
I planned to use my S1R for my keychain but the magnet base was causing problems.

Always good to meet a fellow UFO spotter.
One thing to watch out for in the hobby is torches often with fire in their name (except Surefire) on Amazon advertised as 30,000 lumens, in reality they are closer to 300 lumens. The current brightest stock torch you can buy is the 11,500 lumen X65m. Same with batteries, many 18650 batteries are advertised at up to 9000mah but 3500mah is about the peak. Ironically the farthest throwing torch, the TN42, is only 2000 Lumens, but 600,000cd! Big LEDs are floody so for throw you need a smaller LED in a deep reflector.
For modded torches you'll be running unprotected 18650 batteries or similar so it pays to get decent high drain batteries like Sony VTC6. Modder Vinh is making LED torches out putting up to and over 200 watts, which is like a mini 1500 watt halogen floodlight. Torches are now fun and practical
...especially copper ones that develop patina!

There are about 20 great brands now and as many top modders, and bouyed by the big 3 torch forums they are all in this insane Lumens/candela arms race.
Despite being nerdy and torches being traditionally non recreational it's all very exciting. Especially given how perfect the tints are now. Gone are the days of blue beams!
I'm just starting to get into Tritium lighting now which is still in its infancy at a retail level.

Me too!
Got quite a nice little collection over the years.
Always amazes me how most people don't even have a torch or when I'm out with the dog I'll see women in the middle of nowhere in the pitch black without any light. Decent torch is a bloody good defence tool too, try operating with a powerful torch shining at your eyes.
My favourites for showing off are the AAA size lights with a 10440 battery. Just doesn't compute with most people when you fire one up.
My personal fav is my Sunwayman V10R titanium, love the variable magnetic ring. I even have some small tritium vials to install in the head's cooling fins.

I've got a 50W halogen dive lamp, turns the murkiest of waters to daylight and also keeps my hands nice and warm in cold water! Would overheat in a matter of seconds out of water though; it needs to be submerged for active cooling!

Like my keychain torches, but my Fenix EO5 sounds a baby in this company!
