The country has already gone to the dogs, a second vote won't make any difference!

I don't imagine the PM wants to go with no deal, because despite the rhetoric, she knows how bad that will be for the UK, so the only choices are a different deal (and it's taken over two years to get to this debacle), remain without a vote or go to the people again, with more relevant questions now they are better informed about how Brexit may look and what it may mean.

I doubt the result would be so close this time, whichever way it goes. At least that is a mandate, there isn't one at the moment.
That is patently not true to say only leavers wanted the referendum

You're nit picking there, Martin, you know that the leavers drove it, regardless of whether few remainers wanted one (or were cornered into one, is probably more accurate).

It is a vocal minority, as usual, who are driving policy

It's not really nit-picking, when both the Labour party and Lib Dems supported having the referendum.

All I'm saying that for a second for to be even a remotely credible option, it can't just be the losing side calling for it.

Mmmm, I think it's fair to say that only leavers wanted it in the first place. The fact that we got to a referendum even being on the table for others to agree to is something that came much later on, and is a bit of a moot point.

As for leavers not wanting a second vote, there are people who voted leave who would vote to remain now. Obviously that is true the other way round, so what you're really saying is that at the level where things can be made to happen, no one is asking for it. That is not surprising as the people who pushed it, Johnson, Farage and Mogg etc are not really interested in what is good for the country!

Yes I agree.

It's also true to say that some people wanting to push though a second vote aren't all that interested in what is good for the country either.

Interestingly I work with someone 10 years older than myself who is always incredibly opinionated and politically minded. He was a hard and fast Brexiter and we have had so many heated discussions on this subject it's madness. Even HE now states that if there were a second vote he would vote to remain.

If the country voted again, I'm sure it would be a different outcome.

I think as the no confidence votes have now started today is most certainly going to be Mays last full day in charge. At the end of the day, our parliament have an overwhelming majority who think we should remain in the EU.

May will almost certainly win a confidence vote - this could all by a high risk ploy by the PM to strengthen her hand, crazy as it might seem!

I wouldn't be too sure. Majority want no Brexit at all, a no vote and change of PM could force a different outcome. I can't see her winning the vote of confidence personally.

its certainly an easy way out of her unwinnable situation. Rather than resigning and leaving the party with even less of the little credibility she has left, she can leave and lumber this hot potato for some other Tory fool who has the crass delusion in thinking they can be a successful PM and Tory leader: There is no current tory member up for the job.

Mogg reminds me very much of Redwood during the Major era, a pain in the **** that when called up for others to back his rebellion, they all lost their bottle. This could well be no different, lots of huff and puff and anecdotal resignations of positions whilst still remaining as party members but nobody left standing to actually be willing to take May’s place.

Its also an ironic twist that Major’s victory over the Eurosceptics paved the way for further EU integration that eventually led us to this crap we are now enduring.

Tusks says they're best prepared for a "no Brexit" scenario, May also hinted at the possibility of a no brexit in her speech this earlier today......

Portillo was on TW last night, and when pressed he said that staying in the EU was better than the deal that was proposed.

https://news.sky.com/story/live-mich...draft-11555447

Theresa May remains defiantThe prime minister finished off possibly the worst day of her premiership by comparing herself with her stubborn but effective cricketing hero. She said: "What do you know about Geoffrey Boycott? Geoffrey Boycott stuck to it and he got the runs in the end."

LOL I am fairly sure Geoffrey Boycott doesn't want everyone to know he got the runs

Quick Reply: So Brexit seems to be a good thing then.
