Since I know they have such terribly short memories, here's a quick reminder for the Brexit@rds in this thread of some very thorough research that was carried out into a whole variety of possible Brexit trade scenarios:
https://www.rand.org/randeurope/rese...lications.html

(hint - the only scenario where the UK ends up better off outside of the EU is by far and away the least plausible, and also by far the least likely to be acceptable to the people who most desparately want to leave)

You say this is 'proof', I think you need to set the bar a bit higher when using that word. It certainly is not proof (how could it be?). You should probably also dig a bit deeper a find out what a whole bunch of other economists think of this groups research and methodology.

As Ive already said, Minfords research paints a picture that is completely opposite to what UK businesses are gearing up for.
Minford is a crackpot

he simply bangs on about Tariffs when the biggest impediment to trade are NTB's (as he does in that video, in which he comes across as a total fruitcake)

Tariffs on most products are on the whole quite low, they are not really the issue

but here's what he actually says - from his article in the SUN in 2016

https://www.thesun.co.uk/archives/po...and-even-brie/

"This country is no longer one that specialises in farming or building. We now trade in skills more than we do in things.

We have excellent designers, highly skilled intellectuals and we specialise in ideas that are then sent to South America or parts of Asia to be made.

Over time, if we left the EU, it seems likely that we would mostly eliminate manufacturing, leaving mainly industries such as design, marketing

and hi-tech. But this shouldn’t scare us."
- lol

my bold (and he also forgets WTO does not deal with "skills" as he calls them it manly deals with "things", so completely counter to what he is arguing)

the guy is a bat **** crazy and exist outside mainstream economics for that very reason

his daft theories are trashed in various academic papers that deal with international trade - he completely discounts the economic gravity model, a trade model that is supported by empirical evidence and data - he is an economic "flat earther"

oh and all his theories are based on slashing pretty much all regulation and workers rights - great

indeed, they are called PRATT's

Points Refuted A Thousand Times - a common problem with all conspiracy theorist, flat earthers, YEC and Brexiteers

https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Point_...thousand_times

but in the context of Minford and his Ladybird book of international trade with its complete ignorance of NTB's

the following comments form the senior legal counsel to the Canada trade negotiators made to the Commons Brexit committee are interesting

"With a free trade agreement, you have regulatory autonomy, but you have borders. For Canada it was a huge step forward to get rid of the walls that tariff barriers, for example, create, or rules that so no Canadian need apply, lots of those things. That’s great. But you step over the border and you have to show that you are compliant with the local rules in terms of the provision of services. You have to show that your permits meet the compliance rules in that new regulatory space. And in practice that can be a significant barrier.

In a trading arrangement, if that’s what the UK wants, if it just wants a free trade agreement, it wants to retain complete regulatory autonomy, it can do that, but there will be trade barriers, in the sense of those regulatory conformity issues."

remember tariffs are the easy bit - that's why Brexidiots like Minford go on about them so much

I see why the politicians and billionaires made Brexit into a racist or not racist vote. The 'left' don't like the billionaire class and the government assisted multinational companies, but they can be convinced that they should vote to help the billionaires because the other side is racist, smart move and the leftie muppets fell for it hook line and sinker, have a quick watch of the first 10 mins of this
the first 10 mins are about brexit

Just like the person who's comments on the video you've copied and pasted, you've rather missed the points being made here.

unless of course he is Kurt S

meanwhile in other news - UKIP leader Bolton (and his racist girlfriend) might be in for the chop, as he has just lost a vote of no confidence

I think they should elect Aidan Powlesland (a previous leadership candidate) he wants to mine asteroids for gold and platinum and build an interstellar colony ship, presumably with the £350 million we save

sounds fun!!!

No one seems to of mentioned Boris’s idea of an England to France bridge. HS2 costs are about £56billion and rising so how many trillions of billions would this bridge across the channel cost which would get migrants here even quicker

Erm...Eurotunnel was privately financed.

Although the government made a guarantee on the debts incurred when it ran overbudget. There is no reason why it couldn't be done in the same manner again.

But to build it off Dover is stupid as it'll hit the same bottleneck that you hit if taking the current tunnel or ferry, and the very same bottleneck that makes expanding Heathrow or Gatwick an equally stupid idea as well..The road (and rail) networks in that region cannot cope with current traffic as it is!

A tunnel from Norwich to Holland with matching new road and rail infrastructure to connect it would be more sensible. And let's build one for the Irish too!

In terms of brand image, that £850k would have been better spent replacing all those broken 2.5STi engines...or recalling them.

They had no choice but to stop, because nobody in their right mind will buy one!

Had they done the right thing when the problems emerged its tarnished image could have been redeemed.

well I did point this out last year

not really any surprise to anyone paying attention

here is the text, short and sweet

http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_IP-18-463_en.htm

you will know when the UK is serious re Brexit - it will be when a massive expansion of custom facilities gets built in our ports, including an enormous lorry park in Kent with thousand of extra customs/border personnel needed

the French & Dutch are already well underway with their plans - included a big recruitment drive

and the Irish have started dredging their ports in expectation of extra ferry traffic

you really could not make it up

from an article in the Telegraph

https://behindthepaywall2.wordpress....h-journalists/

"The German Chancellor said that whenever she asks the Prime Minister what she wants from the EU, she always replies: “Make me an offer.”

Mrs Merkel is said to have left journalists laughing “uproariously” when she gave them a behind-the-scenes insight into Brexit talks during her visit to Davos last week.

According to ITV’s Robert Peston, Mrs Merkel’s constant refrain to Mrs May when she asks for an offer is to say: “But you’re leaving – we don’t have to make you an offer. Come on, what do you want?” Mrs May then repeats: “Make me an offer.”

Mrs Merkel said she and Mrs May were trapped in an endless cycle of “what do you want?” and “make me an offer”."

it is pretty clear that we are still in "cake and eat it" mode

quite staggering really
