Default Reasonably priced underwater video camera?

I've had a look at the go pro but with the housing it comes to £450, that's more than I want to spend.

Is there a decent one I could get for less?

I'm not sure if it makes a difference but it doesn't need to go deep as it'll be used whilst snorkeling not diving.

Thanks

My son has just bought a gopro for his paint balling antics, I believe it's also water proof. I've not used it personally yet so can't comment on its functionality etc.

Thanks Nik.

My stupidity, when I went on the gopro website I though they only made one camera ie the £400 one. I didn't realise they made a range of stuff starting from £99.

There are a few to choose from in my price range and I think they can all be made waterproof by using a housing.

Thanks!

Bloody hell that's good and water proof up to 40m

Can these be used as dash cams as well?

I borrowed a friends Sanyo Xacti for my honeymoon, that was a great camera, waterproof to 3 metres without a housing. It was the bright yellow one

Only draw back to that one above seems to be battery life at 2.5hrs and it's not removable, you also need to open the case to charge it, so it's off my list.

Does it have an in-car charging facility so it can be used as a dash cam?

I'd agree, the SJ4000 is very highly rated. Just make sure you don't get a fake.

foxoffer on eBay is an official supplier. The WiFi version is £62 at the moment and comes with loads of accessories.

It has a car mode that works with the MicroUSB cable plugged into your cars power outlet, so that when you start your car and the camera turns on, the camera begins recording.

The WiFi allows you to use your phone as a remote viewfinder and also download footage direct to your phone. You might not need this depending on what you want to do with it.

Is that SJ4000 any good? I've just given it a quick google and it looks like a hell of a deal compared to the GoPro Hero.

Not necessarily, most sellers use both eBay and Amazon these days, except generally the cost is greater on Amazon. Just check the feedback on purchases of the same item

I'd use foxoffer, but it you want it from UK stock, you'll need to use someone else

That's a damn good price and the reviews are positive. I'll have a proper look when I get home.

If the hero3+ has better picture quality I'd rather pay the £200 and get that.

The hero3+ is considerably better, 4k (low framerate), up to 120fps . . . but it's also considerably more expensive. Depends what you need from it

Did the accessory kit include a suction cup mount? I've just been looking on Amazon and it's not hugely clear.

I'll go for hero then. It's for holidays/kids stuff so it's worth spending a few quid for better picture quality.

Cheers

I've decided to buy the gopro hero 4 silver edition, £267 delivered from Amazon.

I just need to make sure I buy the correct SD card.

Do I need to spend £40 on one of these?

SanDisk SDSDQXN-064G-FFPA Extreme 64 GB microSDXC UHS-I Class 10 U3 Memory Card up to 60 MB/s read FFP

Or will this do the same job at £23

SanDisk SDSDQUN-064G-FFP-A Ultra Android 64 GB microSDXC UHS-I Class 10 Memory Card + SD Adapter up to 48 MB/s read FFP

Thanks

Difficult get decent images under water !

All the footage you see on tv etc is taken with extra lighting at very least

I bloody well hope not or I'll have wasted my money! I'm not diving as the kids are too young, we'll only be snorkeling and so I'm hoping at shallow depths the light levels will be ok.
