Default The best Car Movies

Yesterday whilst chilling with a cool bottle of San Miguel I was thinking of all the movies I had watched (mainly inspired by the Cinema thread) and was trying to think of all the best Car movies I had seen.

This is the list I had in my head so far including one that I believe is also worth watching that I haven't got round too yet.
  • Ronin
  • Gone in 60 seconds
  • Biullitt
  • Cannonball Run (probably all of them for the cheese factor)
  • Fast and Furious (Only one of them, cant recall which one)
  • Italian Job (the original)
  • Gumball Rallye
  • Smokey and the Bandit

  • Rush - Yet to see

What about you guys?

Rob, you need to watch Rush if you haven't seen it..... massively better than I was expecting if not entirely historically accurate.

If I remember rightly you are into your bikes too aren't you?

Have you seen TT3D - Closer to the Edge. It's a documentary on the Isle of Man TT... it's the only 3D film I have ever seen that the 3D has been used to make the film truly immersive and some of the onboard stuff is truly 'take your breath away'.

Give it a go

Oh and an old film called Grand Prix with the late great James Garner is worth a Sunday afternoon's viewing too.

I see you missed Driven with Stallone off your list

Hey Chris, I've got Rush on my Laptop with me to watch, but haven't yet had chance. I might put it on my IPad and stream it through the apple TV tonight (anti apple fan boys will love me lol)

I've got a bike yes, but I'm mainly a 4 wheeled man.

I have got Closer to the edge at home on DVD but haven't watched that either yet, but if its in 3D then I'll get that, thanks for the heads up

I'll have a look for GP movie too

Cheers
Rob

edit to add:
I'm not sure if I have seen The Driver. I'll need to look Maz, if its an old one with Steve McQueen I probably have.

Rob

It's an old one Rob. Stars Ryan O Neal and Bruce Dern. Quite cliched but worth watching.

jeez, a few post in and no one mentioned the best car movie ever

The Italian Job - especially close to my heart as I have a 1965 Mini Cooper 1275 S, which I bought in 1992 and was my second car - awaiting restoration

honourable mentions too Bullitt and Two Lane Blacktop

whoops - did not read the original list properly

What was that film called with the "dads" ferrari that he put on axle stands to reverse off the miles he joy-rided out of it, and it crashed through the garage window? Not neccesarily a "car" movie, but featured a ferrari all the way through.... Now that was a funny film for its time. Something like "Brulers drive out"?

Also was "Taxi" with De'Niro a good film? I can't recall how it went down as it was such a long time sgo when I watched it, I must have been 12 years old, and even then I think it was already an old film!

Vanishing point is a fantastic car movie, probably my favourite.

Back to the future

Also, as some seem to be getting mentioned due to having scenes involving cars rather than car themed, what about 'Heat' and 'Taken'?
