Which is why he plays dirty, he knows who the better driver between them is.

Hope Bianchi comes out of his accident well, I noticed it was never ever shown so I'm guessing it must have been quite bad.

The FIA live feed was mid replay when he went off - when they came back to the life feed from the camera at Dunlop his car had just gone under the JCB. As soon as the producer saw the marshals looking very worried they cut to a shot of the pits. Probably a good thing really given the nature of the accident I don't think any F1 fan wants to see a driver hurt.

Must have missed that shot, they show alot of bad accident's but pretty much knew when they didn't show this one it would be fairly bad.

Seen some stills of 2 wheels under the JCB. They need skirts or something similar to stop the cars going underneath. The cars usually perform well when they have a direct impact.

Seen one photo where the engine cover was missing from the car completely, I'm guessing his head has taken a serious knock.

Lets just hope Jules is ok. Getting a bit worried by the lack of news on him.

Fingers crossed for Jules. I hope he recovers soon.

I bet Will Stevens can't believe he'll be called up to fill in so soon after signing as reserve driver. He'll certainly learn a lot about the Marussia team from how they handle this. Such a shame it's under these circumstances.

Yeah I thought that was a load of crap too, but then again jenson has been known to perform well in these conditions.

At the end of it all comes down to that split second in time when jules was along for the ride. At this time the priortiy is that he makes a full speedy recovery. Hope he pulls through and back on the grid soon

Surprising how fast the interviewers jumped on the bandwagon saying the race should have started earlier etc etc.

I could only imagine how many pissed off people there would be if they had booked time off work, paid for tickets, booked flights/hotels/trains etc to arrive at the race and find out it's actually been ran and finished.

Or had it set to record. I didn't watch it until later, and was worried I wouldn't catch the finish when I saw it started and stopped.

If Massa thought there was too much water then perhaps he should have gone to the pits and fitted full wets!

I presume you on about the end of the race cos they were all on full wets at the start. That is the risk they take, any of the drivers could have come in for full wets at the end, its their choice. Obviously the poor guy misjudged the conditions according to his car and was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Maybe there should be some tweaks to how cars are recovered but I don't think anyone is to blame. Also shouldn't they move Japan in the calendar so its not in their rainy season.

I thought I read he had been operated on, and was breathing on his own.

Updates are out there,
He was operated on yesterday at 3pm UK time, he is on a respirator, he isn't breathing unaided, but he hasn't had a 2nd Op as has been rumoured, his parents are due there later today,
Marussia has asked for patients at this time.

Surely given the history of the weather there this time of year it would make sense to move the race to a month when its likely to not have torrential rainfall

Ive just seen some amateur footage taken from the other side (which FOM have now had you tube take down)

The recovery vehicle is reversing and Jules goes under the rear section at about 75 degrees. Entire left hand side of the Marussia submarines under the counterweight, and probably about half the cockpit. He hts it so hard it actually lifts the back wheels of the recovery tractor about 2 feet off the ground and spins it counter clockwise. He'll have hit the back of it a glancing but very hard blow with his helmet -he comes in very fast.

We can only hope his head injury is as a result of the decelleration his brain will have experienced. 3 seconds earlier and he'd have missed it entirely. 3 seconds later he'd probably have been killed instantly as the whole of the Marussia would have gone completely underneath.

Horrific.

IIRC it was the Japanese Grand Prix many years ago which gave Hunt the Championship. It was pissing down and many drivers pulled out including Ayrton who was still recovering from his fireball crash in the summer. But Hunt took his chances and slithered to victory.

The crash recovery vehicles should work from the other side of the barriers where possible. They can stretch out to lift a car out of the way.
