This is a great move, Stu. I hope the flurry of moderator-baiting will fizzle out quickly and let things settle down to some semblance of normality.

There is one thing I would suggest to help the new system run more smoothly:

It seems to me that the first link in the chain of reporting a problem, i.e. the "report post" button, is not sufficiently well-identified to the user. I know of people who have been on this forum for YEARS and have been surprised when enlightened by myself as to its function!! If you could re-design that button so it is immediately obvious what it is for, then I think the reporting of problems will be much improved.

All looking very positive. I'm impressed.

Will be good to get rid of the infractions sitting on my account. One has been there for a year and a half

With some new Mods, very carefully selected and the existing squad, things are looking up

I like it. Much appreciate your efforts Stu

If people simply disagree with an opinion they cannot any longer simply infract the poster because of it (Yes Shaggy, I do mean you ). Choices are now limited to ignoring the comment or posting a reasoned counter-opinion. I sincerely hope that the RTM button continues to be used as sparingly as [I assume] it is now.

Excellent to see IB taking a close interest, and Stu seems to have a very balanced viewpoint.

The ending of the member given infractions is a positive move, and the absolute correct one - this is where the abuse was so widespread.

The instant ban option should be irrelevant with a strong mod team.

Mods running the board is how it should be, but maybe they should declare an interest if the 'reporting' member or 'accused' member is known to them, in the name of fairness.

I'd watch out for 84, Stu. She's trouble, she is

In all seriousness though, a great move. It's been long overdueI think you'll find the vast majority of SN will tell you the same thing.

If this is how your 'reign' starts out, rock on the rest of it

oh and it might seem a tad tedious, but perhaps if you put a link to this thread on each section - as a sticky maybe..? That way everyone will see it.. I can't be the only one who doesnt normally venture in here

ah, see! there is a reason why you make all the decisions and I'm just a lowly hutch-dweller.. i just spotted you've already put it up on the announcement thingy

ooo off topic i know but can the hutch be renamed muppets? pretty please?

More correctly, returned to the title "The Muppet Show!"

Please?

I know, not important in the big scheme of things, but that section of the site generated 1.8 million posts of forum traffic in its heyday.

The heyday was before the Infraction system, would be great to see the old names back to make the place vibrant again?

Yes, someting that has annoyed me for ages. And possibly partly a reason why users were giving infractions instead of RTM'ing.
The "" icon seems to have faded into the background and of recent ignored (owed to users not even noticing it), whilst the infraction system was made very obvious by the mass of public stickies and annoucements when it was enabled.

Anyway, all good stuff. RTM is the way to go as a first port of call.

I noted its working as well, as I've reported a spam post which was vaped within minutes. Whereas when I did the same some months ago, nothing would happen, making it seem it wasn't working and no mods were getting the RTM alerts. Glad thats now been sorted.

Thank God someone listened to us, the paying users of this forum.

Thank you for doing this. Let's hope issues in the future can be sorted as quickly and painlessly as this

Someone whom has been of little benefit and is often disruptive could then be dealt with more severely than another whom has a history of being helpful, positive, supportive or whatever, but has maybe made an ill-judged post. Over on BriSkoda I have clocked up 46 personal thank-you's and I rarely post on there. Similarly I have 39 on AVForums, a little positive feedback on FinalGear etc and my posting on any of these is minute compared to my massive 15k+ on here. It would allow others to see those whom contribute to the community, and those whom maybe do not or perhaps even detract from it, whereas the infraction system is purely negative, only ever being used for what is effectively disciplinary action. Is it something that could be considered ?
Dave's post is all Ive read, and Ive only half read that, but I agree. In order to work though, you need a positive only reputation system, so users can thank those who help (only where appropriate, not your mates or someone whose opinion you share, the post rating feature has failed). By not including the negative aspect you remove the ability for people to use it inappropriately, to 'neg' acceptable posts.

Great move We just need some more moderators to deal with the RTM's but you already have that in hand too The old system used to work better than infractions

You may be joking, but it personally drives me nuts and because the simple fact is, a discussion forums only method of communication is written text, so if you cant get that bit right you may as well not use it.

Oooh, please God! *crosses fingers*

Or failing that, how about a big spike that shoots out of the monitor into a user's chest if they use txt spk?

Already added. See the little box with a tick and ABC in it? Install the plugin to your pc when it asks.

Ive also added the editor options to quick reply box as they are re handy for correctly formatting text instead of having to press advanced.
