Has anyone done this?

I want to move my hanging rear fog light on my car (under the bumper) into the drivers side light cluster - I could replace the reverse light on that side with the fog light wiring and change the bulb to red - this is most likely what I will do.

Anyone done anything similar? Advice/options appreciated.

Its been done on my JDM MY03 STi Spec C but ive not seen it done on a classic

I have the above on mine Tony, have a push button in the car to turn it on off etc, running to the reverse light section with a red bulb fitted

That is exactly what I am planning. ALready have the fog, the wiring and the switch etc - just want rid of the hanger.

yeah,mine was done like that, u need either tho to paint the reverse light with an acrylic red as a red bulb alone wont be enough i dont think.

or, you can always fit UK clusters, i took them off my sport onto the turbo, looks well sweet,confuses people tho, uk turbo sir, nope LOL

 

try the red led bulbs from demon tweeks, they are well bright, and i think cost a tenner ish

 

Yep, my rear fog light is fitted in the o/s reversing light holder.

I have a red LED cluster in there - therefore no need to paint the lens - and it's passed the MoT without any problems.

 

How is it fitted in/wired?

Is it bored into the cluster in a different place or doesit use the existing bulb holder with the wiring changed?

From memory you just need the wire that comes from your fog switch to go into the original bulb holder. You'll need to cut the reversing wire off the bulb holder, leaving enough to attach the fog wire to the cut end. The other side of the holder is ok coz it just earths to the body with the rest of the cluster IIRC

 

Exactly as PPPRob said but if you use a multi led (25 led's) these do not show up red through the lens and are well bright enough when lit.

I was wondering how to do this as I had one of those fog lights that was just hanging down on my wrx my94, so I rewired the drivers side reverse light with the fog light loom and then covered the clear lens with some red lens repair tape from my local auto factors as I couldn't find a red bulb anywhere. total cost - £1:60 for the tape. It looks good too as the lens appears to be red!

 

i remember you telling me about that when i got the spoiler and bootlid off you. i actually havent got any form of rear foglight on my car at all, but it was mot'ed just before i bought it in may and i have the mot slip to prove it... whats going on and can i be arrested for it?

 

It is done. Meant to post it up - no pictures as it just looks like the rear clusters - perfect.

I removed the old fog, fed the wires back into the car, de-soldered the wires from the drivers side reverse light bulb holder, dismantled the holder & spring and then re-wired and soldered the fog light wires (the correct way round) onto the bulb holder fittings.

Then I terminalled the no-longer needed reverse light wires from that side, taped them out of the way and taped the new fog light wires into the loom in the cluster for neatness. I then fitted the 24 bulb LED (shows white, lights red and a tight fit to get into the cluster) tested and LO AND BEHOLD - perfect.

SO much better than a hanging plastic box, or a nasty cut into the bumper affair.

My classic had a fog in the offside cluster, looked crap so changed it.

Now I have no rear fog, only when getting ready for MOT

 

I have moved the fog light into the reverse light, I used a 24led bulb off fleebay for £5, piece of cake, but I am now left with 2 screw size holes and a slightly larger one (used for the cable), any ideas how to fill them or sort it? I am not a happy bunny.

edited to say, that I have a Jap plate, which if I replace with a UK one should cover those holes...but will leave the jap brakets hanging down.... ohhhhh what a chain reaction!

 

Where did you get the 24 led bulb from?

 

Remove the rear bumper, grind off or remove the jap number plate bracket however you want, refit bumper and add new UK size number plate.
There you go, all your nightmares sorted in approx 1 hour.

Not a JDM but a UK car - when I fitted my STI rears, I had to use the UK wiring loom to get the foglamp and ran that to the reverse section of the cluster. Bulb I used was a 18x red LED from ultraleds and it passed the MOT no probs.

 

Tony I have a jdm what bulb did you use. Ultraleds look OK but how do I tell the fitment I need?

I wasn't happy to find the atrocity that the importer did with my car!!!




and the Result.... not perfect but much better...


I used a 25LED red light, lets see what happens when the next MOT comes along!
