Default Time for a full respray! build pics (lots of pics!)

after owning my Bugeye GX 2.0 non turbo for 2 very enjoyable years, i decided she was looking tired and the time had come to give her a makeover. A friend of mine has just opened his own bodyshop so i decided to go for a full respray to give her the tidy up she deserves! Shes not quite finished yet, itl take another week before i get her back done and dusted. Heres the pics...

So far the car body, doors, mirrors, handles etc has all been painted arctic white with Gloss black roof... Still to go are the bumpers, skirts and alloys. The alloys are getting painted gun metal grey with a bronze flake in it, looks beautiful when the sun hits it!

on order from ebay are a lovely set of red Rally Armour mud flaps, STi style black headlights, and my biggest bargain was a full set of red and black STi V3 seats with grey alcantara inserts which i put a cheeky bid on and won for only £67!!!! i was over the moon!! They will be fitted last after the car is back together. il keep pics updated

The interior wasnt suposed to even be getting done but when i won the seats for £67 it was a must! Theyre out of a classic shape so i know the front ones bolt straight in but the back might be tricky and need altering slightly to fit but we'll get it in somehow... i just cant wait to drive it again!!!

Its a non turbo mate so doesnt have a scoop, the bonnet doesnt even have a hole in it, it was fitted last year badly, simply drilled and bolted on but the lads have properly flush fitted it this time and made a lovley job of it. They also going to drill holes in the bonnet aswell to stop the scoop lifting at speed. I love the bigger scoops anyway i always though the original bugeye scoop looked a bit small in my opinion

The WRX is quite small but the STI is much taller - my opinion but I don't think the sharp angles of the blob scoop suit the curves of the bug

Very nice mate. Just one question. Why have you not had the whole rear pannel painted as well?

trust me it wouldnt have been cheaper, the bodyshop is owned by 2 friends of mine, i got a good deal on all the work. Plus i own a graphics/sign shop, vinyl hasnt got the same look of nice shiney gloss paint and it scratches easily when polished it gets swirl marks and doesnt look nice for long!, thats why i didnt wrap the roof black, paint looks much better, id never wrap a full car, each to his own i guess!

Few more pics from today...

painted calipers red, and got the Sti interior in and proved that contarary to popular belief, the rear seat from a classic shape DOES actually fit neatly into a bugeye!! granted it took a few slight modifications to go in, but it looks absolutly spot on!
Sorry for the bad pics, il get better ones when its finished in the daylight.

Rear bumper and alloys all prepped now ready to be primed and painted...

Shouldnt be long now, hopefully completed wednesday/ thursday night! Its like waiting for Xmas day...

Been a hard few days, the front bumper had a few hidden secrets, major cracks behin the vent so when the lads sanded it it cracked open prety bad and needed major fibreglass and filler work, its set the whole job 4 days so i guess il have to wait a little longer to get ti back on the road!

Meanwhile, i fancied a set of propper rally amor mud flaps, but when i saw the price tag of £135 for a set of 4 i nearly fell through the floor!!! so i opted for a much cheaper set of Sparco rally flaps and swapped the decals. Luckily i own my own signs shop so i was able to make the rally amour decals myself! heres the finished result. looks pretty good!! (sorry for the upside down pic)

And heres the progress of the front bumper...

after days of fixing the bumper, Finally Progression!!!

The foglight inserts are getting sprayed Gloss black, but looking smart so far after hours of repair!! ...

This is the corner they had to reconstruct from fiberglass and filler, not bad at all theyve done a cracking job!

Alloys getting repaired and sanded properly ready for paint tomorrow night...

And the cars finally getting built back up, door handles, trim, mirrors etc... iv ordered a set of clear side repeaters off ebay coz i hate the amber ones now they dont like right against the white.

iv had that scoop for a while and like it so wanted it back on, i bought it off ebay only cost me £30 which considering its a genuine part not a cheap copy isnt bad at all, im sure its off a Blob eye. I had it on before the respray but it was badly fitted, it had a rubber seal round the bottom to hide the gap where it didnt meet the bonnet properly with it being a none turbo bonnet theres no recess for it to sit in, so the lads have cut and shaped it all so it sits on the bonnet properly this time, with no unsightly gap! so it looks like its meant to be there.

The wheels should be painted tonight, they are getting done Anthracite (like a dark gun metal greyish) with a subtle bronze fleck so when the sun hits them they sparkle. I saw them paint a Corsa wheels that colour and loved it! I didnt want to go for the black roof/black wheels scheme that everybody does and iv always loved gun metal grey alloys.

Quick Reply: Time for a full respray! build pics (lots of pics!)
