Default This Is Why We Call It God's Country

Recently I took a slight diversion on my way home via Abergwesyn, from there you can travel over the mountains to either Llyn Brianne (and onto Llandovery) or over to Tregaron.

For those that don't know the road it's a real hidden gem and well worth the effort to drive to either Llyn Brianne or over to Tregaron.

Both roads where they split are very tricky in places and definitely should not be driven with speed unless you know the roads very well or have a death wish.

There are quite a few blind rises and falls on either route but the road to Llyn Brianne is definitely the most picturesque and probably the trickier of the two.

This route will be used shortly in a run that is being organised in the Welsh section by SWS, if you fancy coming along then please put your name down.

I'm not sure I'd go that far, there might be werewolves in them there hills.

There certainly was the odd sheep here and there, actually the whole area was full of the blinking kamikaze things, they either have no fear or no brains.

You should try moving to the land of your forefathers, you could drive roads like these anytime you like. I dare say you have the odd country lane and roundabout to break up the monotonous Essex roads.

Jon, I will when I go out on the run on the 16th but you definitely won't see me trying any heroics on some sections, one mistake and I'd be barrel rolling in flames into a ravine.

You can have any casualties along the route, I dare say that is how you keep your freezer topped up.

Not anything like that mate. I'd best buy myself another MTB then I've got an excuse to come home!! With Rees as a surname the locals might even speak to me

Nice one, came down the A5 from Llanwrst in the grand scenic today and went across Snowdownia in the week, but my car hasn't been up there for a good couple of years.

Plus, the most common sort of hero is a dead hero - you quickly learn that in my line of work

I remember a drive back from Aberystwyth a year or so ago - possibly the B4574? Stunning countryside, great roads to drive Oh, and lots of sheep lol.

I have great memories of Wales after countless family holidays there when I was a yoof...something about the scenery gets to my soul, if that makes sense.

Cnicht, in North Wales, is my favourite mountain in the world - it has the perfect shape and is a great scramble to get to the summit.

I'll get my coat lol

I think that's the road from Aberystwyth to Rhyader via Cwmystwyth, a very nice stretch of road - did you stop by the abandoned slate mine workings? Stunning views and scenery, we probably take it for granted over here.

As for the rest of your post could you translate it for me?

I know what you mean Lee, we've got spectacular roads and scenery but we do take it for granted.

I'd class these roads as being better than the Black Mountain road, the views are breathtaking and the roads are some of the best in the UK.

Let's just hope that they don't get too popular though.

Looks interesting... decent wildlife around there too, I should imagine. Doesn't the escaped golden eagle drift over that area?

I certainly didn't see a golden eagle but quite a few red kites, in fact one of them was flying alongside me as I was driving - it wasn't that large so I'd suspect it was a very curious juvenile.
