Interesting bulbs Phil, how do these compare to std main beam - I swapped to Osram nightbreakers but they are quite yellow and not sure if much better than std.

Which fitting - HB3 ? and does it need to be canbus type?? ( don't think so ). Is the base angled and have the plug for the loom?

There are some uprated D2S bulbs for the main beam out there.

Autobulbsdirect.co.uk have a good range and Black Friday offers on now.

hatches dont use d2s on main beam though? its just standard HB3 bulb, its the dipped beam which is d2s hid bulb.

Sorry, you are right, DS2's only on dipped, typo! Didn't make it clear I was on about the other head lamps!

I've got ds2 for dipped, Nightbreakers, quite expensive, an improvement over oem but not stunning. I've got main beam hid Nightbreakers and they are a great improvement, and £24 vs £60 odd for dipped, all for jdm car

Those bulbs Salsa mentioned - I got some, pretty good - good colour and seem far better than the Osram 130% + bulbs I last fitted.

Now my problem - question - Air Con. 2009 STi.

Been having problems on and off with air con every few months for last 2 or more years.
Been into air con "specialists" and main dealer. Changed high and low port valves and some O rings. Compressor quite noisy.

Seems to lose gas over 3 months ish, and this last time inside a month.

Today was misting up inside car, air con on but doing nothing .. checked - ZERO pressure in system. Regassed with leak stopper and 1 x 450g can refrigerant. Compressor started up - on, off, OK. Then came on, stayed on, pipes in and out compressor REALLY hot - water boiled off them! and high pressure port plastic cap had melted threads!

While watching this ..... WHoosh, cloud of oil and fridge gas came out of n/s compressor body - looks like blown compressor gasket??
Apparently had smelt "oily" for a while in the cabin!

SO, any one got a spare WRX STi 2009 330S air con compressor going cheap? Found a recon one on ebay. Any other parts I would need - O rings for high and low pressure pipes?

Any tricks to fit new compressor?
Cheers

Found this kit on USA site ... any use?
https://www.buyautoparts.com/buynow/...it/60-85297_RU

or

https://www.buyautoparts.com/buynow/...it/60-80548_R5

How difficult to fit ??

I'll post this on technical too!

what did the dealer say it was?

I had Ac issues, went to a ac specialist who found a leak on the 'O' ring... after Neon die was put through the system.
came home, still same issue and they said it must be the compressor.

took it to a main dealer as was under warranty, they tested it, said 'O' ring had a leak!!!!

They swapped it to find wrong 'O' ring was used, they fitted new one. worked.

I have had new compressor the other year (out of warranty) as it had a hole in the fin. cost about £400 fitted.

2 times ago at dealers they could not find anything wrong, refilled it but had emptied mainly in a few months.
Used local place just for refill twice - no leaks but finally thought it was the port valves
Next time at dealer had ordered in port valves and O rings ( think for hose connection to compressor ) but dealer "did not have the tool to fit the valves" !!
So back to local company for another refill AND fit the valves / o rings.

Lasted 6 months?

Never any sign of the fluorescent dye from leaks, holds pressure in their vac / nitrogen pressure tests prior to refilling, so bit of an odd one.

This year had to fill couple of times and used a sealer last 2 times, lasting 2-3 months then 1 month ... and then today seemed to work well but blew seal on compressor a few minutes later! Pipes were very hot... I think compressor has been running when empty and overheated - cap off high pressure port had melted threads, and water on the hose fitting at compressor boiled!

Any idea where the pressure switch is - compressor? as it's supposed to stop running with low pressure / no gas AND over pressure ..... don't want to change compressor and not that vale!

I can change either just compressor and hose o-rings, or as suggested in that USA link front air con radiator/drier, expansion valve and compressor.
Not sure how to get out the front air con rad with FMIC etc.!

Cheers

AFAIK the TRIPLE pressure switch only supplied by Subaru as part of the low pressure pipework (highlighted in yellow)
"Pipe - evaporator cooling" part number 73431FG000
If you can read the label it is manufactured by Denso

High pressure switch turns the compressor (magnet clutch) to OFF when the refrigerant pressure becomes extremely high to prevent the evaporator, air conditioner piping and expansion valve from getting damaged or frozen.
Middle pressure switch effectively controls the radiator fan output by judging high load/low load in normal range.
Low pressure switch turns the compressor (magnet clutch) to OFF, judging as low refrigerant level when the refrigerant pressure becomes extremely low, to prevent the possible seizure if the compressor rotates.

I've changed oil every 3000 to 5000 miles, but after the last 3 changes, I've had a lumpy tickover; you mentioned in an earlier post that the avcs does this after an oil change sometimes, so I was heading in that direction.

No, it`s worst after an oil change, it`s not enough to show on the rev counter, but the boost gauge flickers, more like a murmour. When hot, driver`s side has a hollow tapping at idle.

You need to read the live data on what's happening avc's wise, especially the exhaust side, they tend to be more sensitive than the inlet, the filters in them are in the alloy body bolted the the heads, & at times move backwards out of place, & can throw up issues.

Has anyone used a Gates or Dayco cambelt kit before?

I am looking to have the cambelt replaced in my car but don't fancy paying £433 for the Subaru "genuine" one.

Do we know who makes the parts/belts for Subaru?

https://www.importcarparts.co.uk/parts?cat=96&sub=457&sec=3007&var=25&dc=y

I am thinking of buying the Cosworth one and purchasing the crankshaft seal separately as that's the only difference between the Cosworth and the OEM one.

Also regarding discs, what do you recommend?

https://www.importcarparts.co.uk/par...y=&searchPart= or

https://www.importcarparts.co.uk/par...y=&searchPart=

Thanks!

I asked a mate what range and flying time he is capable of, we are going to plan a spirited run - I have found a nice road to do this on

Good work

Unhappy Ripped off .... lost wheels and new tyres at Foundry Alloys, Widnes

Well, that was an epic fail.

Dropped wheels with new tyres off at Foundry Alloys, Widnes, for refurb and probably colour change. The man there, Kyle, swapped the car over to the winter wheels/tyres and kept the 330S wheels with F1's. 21 Nov 18. Would be done in a couple of days.

No contact with them since then despite trying every other day and visiting unit - closed up - tried e-mail, phone, mobile ( 2 numbers ) voice mail, twitter and facebook to the business pages etc. and NO response.

Unit adjacent said he thought they had packed in the business, site landlord was unaware but had not seen them there a few weeks.
Visited site today, unit is open and NOW find the unit empty of equipment and wheels just a load of waste tyres and paint cans ... my wheels have gone ...

So I am out a set of 330S 18" wheels and new Goodyear F1's .........

Any thoughts - been to citizen advice, have written to the home address of trader... awaiting any response before I can go to trading standards or small claims court.

Great christmas present.....

Cheers Raggy,

Funny, when you inform them at every address known, that you will be taking legal action if they are not returned, 4 hours later get a reply about health issues so closed business and wheels/tyres are in the back garden come get them after returning from holiday Sunday!!

Didn't want to "send the boys round" as you know who'd be in the wrong with the police..... and he's bigger than me!

So should have them back next week!
