Still can't believe how hot the tyres get.

Not as hot as they look!!!!! To get a good pic, I had to hide the scale which would have revelaed that the temp range in the image is about 4 to 30 C (black is cold, white is hot). The camera auto-scales, so the colours are not directly comparable between the multiple images in my second post and I didn't set the emissivity so the exact temps are a bit dodgy. I guess the tyre surface is about 24 C ish, and no I wasn't driving very fast before the photo!!!! Certianly no burnouts!!!!!

Here's and advanced question for the anoraks ouy there. In normal service, shoud the tread or the sidewall be hotter. I'd have guessed the sidewall since this flexes every rotation of the tyre, but the image below seems to contradict this

Either that or the 85psi I run is a bit high

I am no longer surprised by how hot the tyres get.

I did this a few months back too, although your camera is some what better than the one at my work!

Im no anorak, but i would have thought it had to be the tread as this is where all the friction is created and the tread moving around will also produce heat, the side wall simply flexes so heat build up here will be minimal.
