Default '96 WRX. De-Pimp My Ride.

Hi all, thanks for the add..
Thought I'd share my progress pics with you guys.

Recently bought my 5th Impreza and loving owning one again.

This one had really low mileage and zero rust. Unfortunately it came with a few questionable modifications.

My plan is to return it back to standard and see where i go from there.

Here's how she looked when i picked her up. Them lights.... Blinding ...
Max Power induction ...
Dare Wheels .... Dare???
Blacked out indicators !!
Can anyone suggest a good website where i can host my pictures so i can just link them to the forum posts. This way i won't have to crop my pics to insert them directly... My pic file sizes are too big i think...

I look forward to your criticisms, suggestions and comments!! Thanks for looking.

Yes! good man! Another classic being saved.

Those modifications are questionable at best haha. It does look like a nice clean example though underneath, first on my list would be to remove that drainpipe of an exhaust.

Cheers sunny

i love a classic sccob, this is my 5th...

its so hard to find a standard, rust free example. its even harder to find one where a fart cannon hasnt been put on... does anybody run factory exhausts these days??

this was imported in 2008. its been undersealed and dry stored since. 56k on the clock and half of that was kilometers.
interior is standard, and it has all the factory cats still fitted.

ive recently got hold of the correct boot decals, rear lights, air filter, exhaust and alloys that came as factory.

i have also managed to get hold off some coilovers and 4/2 pots to put on. they just need a refurb.

this is how she looks now.

just need to sort brakes and suspension out next.[img]

this is the goal:

Good work! Just getting rid of those rear lights makes it look so much better.

I'd replace that rear number plate, stands out too much.

Yes, although relatively speaking there are quite a few version 3-6 STi's there seems to be far fewer of their WRX equivalents on UK roads.

The number plate is definitely on the list... probably bin off the private plate that came with the car too.

If anybody here is named Pat L, you're welcome to it.

Minor progress today... restored the rear lights as they looked faded and dull.

Caliper paint made an appearance also....

Need to order some braided hoses and get the suspension and brakes fitted.

I am not the biggest fan of sanding and prepping, I really need to invest in some power tools.

Have you thought about adding a brake stopper? For £40 and 15 minutes fitting they're a good way to sharpen the brakes.

No worries. I'm always full of ideas on how to spend other people's money on upgrade parts.

Haha yes, that sub woofer set up was something else.
Even the wiring for the rear fog and immobiliser was questionable. Spent a weekend sorting the wiring out.
Decent alarm though...
Left the sub with the previous owner.

I was looking to buy that. But he wanted abit more than i thought it was worth.
Looked a clean car though. You should of had the sub to resell.

Guessing he knew nothing about Impreza's.

If you ever sell it let me know

Un-chaving this car was a must!!

i nearly have everything i need now to put it all together and have it ready for driving...

ICP came through with my stainless brake lines and interior pieces, plus i picked up a brake stopper from ebay.

a couple more deliveries and she will be on axle stands.

hopefully all going well, the next update will be of the completed end result...

Looks smart what you've done already. Most of things I would have done if bought it. Did look a good example.

Haha, yes its defo garaged... and been garaged on axle stands since the last time i posted.

i didnt want to update until i had it all done.

in the past few weeks, ive only managed to spend a few hours here and there, but made some progress.

firstly i would like to say how impressed i was with these sill protectors... random ebay purchase.

they seem to be holding up well. would defo recommend if you ever need to use the sills to jack or stand for short or long periods.

first thing i did was remove brakes, hoses and struts. then... it sat for a month LOL

Next, it was time to install my coiloivers along with 4/2 pots and braided hoses... couldnt wait.

but this is where my plans changed...

Long story short, the Coilovers i bought were a load of crap. Ordered Tein Springs instead.

a few weekends ago, i swapped the springs over. that was pretty fun.. pass-through sockets came in well handy here.

on the plus side.. my turrets and sills look pretty clean. very happy with the car.

im hoping to put my brakes on and bleed the system tomorrow night.
