Love these project threads

This was a stunning example before the work started and is looking amazing already, wonderful paint job

Takes me back 20 years when I had my first of three WRX's, like many if I had the time money, space and inclination, oh and a lottery win.........

JT, so where the hell have you been, of late?
Not a great deal to pique my interest, Joz. Watching this thread though. Hope you’re well, old son.

Wow. Absolutely astonishing. Seems a shame to cover all of that carbon up, it certainly looks stunning in the paint.

Looking forward to seeing it pulled together and on the road.

HI
Went up to see the car the other day , and it's looking amazing in the flesh , much better than I was expecting , there is a mark in the paint on the quarter panel which they have to fix , so will get it back next weekend , I have my RA here I need to change the shocks as the guy who's bought it is picking it up next week , so i'll get the 2 door one back here when that's gone.

Byron who did the car owns the 6R4 , and bought a load of fifteen52 wheels for it , and put some wheels in the arch to take pics , he was telling me to get a set but they don't work for me , not that big on the design , or white wheels .

These are wheels I have bought for it , finishing off the WRC look , speedline replica's made under licence , very nice wheels , and looks perfect to me , the wheel was just put in the arch , I need to make spacers to fill the arch now , the wheels are only available in an ET48 , the wheels on my old WRC car were ET10 I think , so will make up some hubcentric spacers to fill the arch's perfectly.
Need to decide on a coilover kit as it will need dropping 50-60mm , so on the search for something that isn't too hard for road use , it won't be going on the track , so want something firm , but comfy and not rattle my teeth out !

I'm going to order new window surrounds , and the gutter trim , just so it looks perfect outside , I'm undecided what to do with the seats now , I'll fit the originals in and see what it looks like with the red on them , but I may go for later blue STi seats , we'll see .

That's about it for now

Cheers Ian

Car looks fantastic, out of interest... Where do you get the gutter trims? I've tried various places but get a hold of any.

Wouldn't they look better than the gold logo'd ones -- their 'void' black giving the illusion of a WRC/race car without any centre caps...?

I'm accepting recommendations

Got to do a bit of homework on suspension choice , I'd like coilovers about as firm as the standard type R suspension.

Any thoughts ?

Cheers Ian

Coilovers - I think KW v3 35245001 (not the clubsport version). They can be had for £1500.
I believe their spring rates are 6kg/mm front 4.1Kg/mm rear (they're not that forthcoming with rates).
If it were me, I'd ask them if they could reduce the front spring rate to 4.75kg/mm and adjust the front damping to match - that would be a better ride frequency for a road car.

KW's road stuff is twin-tube - that might be useful if you end up having to use alternative bump stops or clip-on spacers, on the damper rods.
You might need to do that, as a bridge between the aesthetics you want and instead of having to raise the ride heights. If they were inverted dampers, that would be a world of pain getting to the internal bump stops.

As a road car, the type r spring rates were much lower, depending on year:
3.5/3.1 - twin-tube struts
4/3.3 - inverted struts
4.2/3.5 - inverted struts.
P1 3.5/2.8 - inverted struts
Are there any quality coilovers, that have damping curves, that accommodate those kind of rates

Any idea how much higher those arch curves are, when compared to a standard wings?

hth

Mark

Finally got the car back this week , looks amazing , but a fair bit to go until its finished , got it on the ramp today , had someone stripping it down today , the rear axle , hubs etc are all off now ready to bead blast and powder coat the arms , diff carrier and hubs , and have all the nuts and bolts re-plated.
Did have some issues getting some of the bolts out holding the diff cradle and brackets for the trailing arms , and 3 captive nuts have broken off inside the chassis , so need to figure out the best way of sorting them out .

Managed to pick up a brand new pair of 22B bonnet vents a couple of weeks ago for the bargain price of £250 , seen them advertised on Facebook , luckily I seen it as soon as they went on there as there was loads after me looking to buy them , dropped them up the body shop and had them paint them for me.

My RA was picked up last week , new owner was over the moon with it , it's a cracking car

Cheers Ian

Amazing! I'm so envious. LOL

Ian, are you going to bother with the WRC97/98 bumper badge plinth thingy (plus black 'stars' badge)?...
