Default My RA and Type R

Picked up a couple of cars in the last few weeks , been on the hunt for a nice RA for a while , and a fresh import popped up for sale on here a few weeks ago , luckily I seen the advert not long after it was on and did a deal within a short while.
It's a totally standard version 4 in immaculate condition , all bog standard as the day it rolled out of the factory , I had it detailed last weekend , came up very good.
Needs a couple of jobs doing to it , suspension is little bouncy so will be fitting new standard shocks , the inlet manifold paint has come off , so need to redo that , apart from that it's exactly how I want it 😀

I was trying to buy a type R a few weeks ago on here that was in bits , I was looking to get a car that needed work , I was thinking of fitting a WRC body kit , and buying a widetrack and using all the mechanicals out of it into the type R ,I seen the car was sold to someone else , then I seen a rallying friend of mine from west Wales selling his version 5 type R , luckily I was quick contacting him as he had quite a few people after it , a deal was done Sunday , and collected it on Tuesday evening , looks fairly standard except for a stainless 3" exhaust and 18" prodrive wheels , I was thinking of fitting a body kit to this but it's too nice to chop about , so going to leave it as it is , I'm going to change the wheels to gold , and put some bigger brakes on it , but that's it , the rear cross member and rear arms and anti roll bar has rust on them , so going to go through it , stripping it down and powdercoating it all and get it looking brand new.

The type R has been in the country for 8 years , had two owners over here , my friend for the last year , has 93k KLM's on it , and drives very well .

Not quite the buzz of the WRC car I just sold , but a close second .

Can't believe your mate only kept the type r for a year, well done on not fitting a wide arch kit. Looks mint, like it was respray a few weeks ago. Any engine shots?

Must be, can't be that many blue ones in thousands of bits.

It's certainly a project!

No it was sold to a Japanese collector , to be used occasionaly on the road , apparently quite a few have gone to japan to collectors.

Was picked up from me about a month ago so should be about there now , probably passed loads of cars coming the other way 😂

Seeing as its nice , and the car had to come off the ramp ( I store it there under cover out of the way ) thought i'd take more pics of the RA , I love this car !

Its in mint condition for a nearly 20 year old car , just got to re-paint the inlet manifold , want to find the original colour crinkle finish , and the shocks have gone a bit soft so will order up a new set this week , will be on our stand on rallyday if anyone going , come say hi .

And back to back with my Type R

I've been using the type R for the last week or so , what an ace car , not as nice condition wise , and doesn't feel as tight as the RA , but a great fun car none the less.

I am keeping the RA totally bog standard , it's not having anything changed , the type R i'm seriously considering a WRC S5 body kit , have been looking around on what's on offer , and most of the offerings are very poor quality , as I found out when I needed to repair my old WRC car after have a few ' off's ' !
They just need so much time making the fit somewhere nearly right , then the panel gaps are all over the shop.

Read Jamie's thread here http://www.type-ra.com/subaru-forum/...-6#post-179631 and was gobsmacked at the attention to details and quality , so looks like i'll be going down this route in the next few months , if i'm going to cut the rear arches off a perfectly good type R , I have to make sure its done to the highest standard possible , I don't think it can get any better.

I have ordered already a set of Speedline WRC S5 18" copy wheels from Italy this week to get the ball rolling , these are an exact copy of the Genuine magnesium Speedlines I had on the rally car , so looking forward to it being finished sometime early next year.
It's not having a roll cage fitted , the interior is staying standard , so will be a usable everyday (sunny day ) car

Cheers Ian

Both cars look fantastic .. makes me think I should have gone for a classic rather than a newage when I bought earlier this year

Damn, wish I'd have been aware of that, before I got the Revos. The Revos. are great......but the Speedline pattern is pukka, of course.

Out of interest, what's the name of the Italian co. which makes them?

Ah yes, of course!

I remember someone else on here posting a comparison picture of the original Speedlines, GTZs and Revos.

I have all 3 , the original speedlines I had on my WRC car , were magnesium , and were a bugger for cracking on the outside diameter , the Revs are quite a bit different than the WRC wheels , and the gold is quite light , I have some here , i'll take a pic of the GTZ and Revs next to each other to compere , the GTZ's are a lot nicer , nicer gold as well

GTZ don't appear to have a website(?)

The only vendor I can see is this:

http://www.subarupartsstore.co.uk/in.../sacc2777.html

How much for a set of 4 at 18", 5x100mm, in gold i.e. as per your set?

Do they do different offsets?

Hi
Looks like GTZ is the name the company in Spain uses as there trade name as he has loads of parts with this name on , he is also a Speedline main dealer and told me he has had them made in italy and are only available from him , and through his dealers , which we are one .
They do have a website but not much info on it www.gtzracing.com
They only offer one size and offset for the Impreza.
I haven't compered the weight as i haven't got 18" revs at the moment , only 17's .

Fittedthem on my type R yesterday , they look vey nice

Cheers Ian

Thanks, Ian. Stunning.

Out of interest, do you know what that offset is, then? Is it somewhere close to the OEM +48mm? They don't protrude much, so I'm guessing do, right?

Forgot to ask...

Are they 7.5J or 8? I understand the wider width is more suited to the 2-door? I have the narrower width (Revos) on my 4-dr.

Yes theg are ET48 , thats all they offer for the Impreza , and 8" wide , they don't offer 7.5" wide.
With the tyres i have , 225 x 40 x 18 Nankang track day tyres that have quite a straight sidewall , they do just catch the arch on hard cornering or pothole , so it would either need a smaller width / shape tyre or the arch dressing .

Im going to go widearch on mine so doesn't matter to me , if i got 5 in the next couple of days I'll fit them on the 4 door and see
