Default Sidelights always on

Hi, I have a problem with my 1996 Type ra.

When it rains, my sidelights and sometimes ignition is always on. I have to disconnect the battery at nights so it doesn't drain my battery.

Fuses have been checked and I do not know where to start.

HELP!

Thanks.

Switch on top of steering column wouldn't cause the ignition to come on though, thats a strange one.

Are the sidelights usually on after you`ve cleaned the interior?

"...When it rains, my sidelights and sometimes ignition is always on..."

I suspect that water is getting on the electrics somewhere (completing a circuit, and switching lights on)

Well the side lights are ignition controlled, via the stalk so assuming after the rain u have the stalk in the side lights on position, from there they go to a relay then off to the lights, so u have a leak inside e car or the light relay is fooooooked and ur getting a feed to that circuit which is back feeding to through the ignition system, ur gonna have to take ya dashboard out and follow every wire from the front and rear lights back

Its not parking light switch guys. This problem only happens when it rains or when I wash the car

The problem goes after it drys out wherever its leaking from.

Nothing seems to be wet inside the car.

Is it easier changing the whole loom? or can the current loom be fixed?

If the boot is dry, then the fault is up front, but can't think for the life of me where, the water can cause a short, I'll have a look at some schematics later and let u know

If you haven't fixed it then may be worth a look through this.........

http://ken-gilbert.com/wrx/mans/pre97/WiringDiag.pdf

Sidelights controlled by a relay so closer inspection around the fuse/relay boards for ingress of water.

Have you removed the undertrays from the bonnet grilles??

try hoseing the car down an area at a time and see if you can get the fault to repeat, then you may have narrowed the search a bit!
