HelpHello chaps, after a long search I've got my hella supertone hooked up with the relay.

I struggled to find help doing it so thought I'd share this images to help others that find themselves where I was a few months past!

I didn't think the instructions it came with were very good.
I'm not a sparky so electrical stuff can be tricky for me.

Hi,
I have just ordered a pair of Hella horns, I dont expect any problems doing the electrics but can anyone tell me how to get the grill off!

video above shows how. use a flat screwdriver, there are 4 little tangs to push down and pull off. bugeye sti etc are a bit different and have a few more but basically all the same.

Thanks, unfortunately the grill on my 2006 hawkeye is rather different and I cannot locate any tags as in the video

Hi I installed Hella supertones in mine, however when finish the sounded quiet and flat, have been told I need to get the correct hella wiring harness which will resolve the problem ?. Also anyone have any idea where to get a Perrin mounting bracket or something similar in the UK as I don't want to have to import it from the States. Thanks.

I cant help with the Perrin bracket but if the horns are flat the problem is probably with too much voltage drop in the wiring If they are like mine (which I have not installed yet!) the draw 66 watts or just over 5 amps. That imples a total resistance (both horms in parallel) of just over 2 ohms, which does not leave much scope for resistenace in the wiring.
I am sure you dont need Hellla's own loom. A good horn relay (if you are not using one already) seriously clean earth connection to the bodywork and a thick wire (with inline fuse!) staright to the battery should do it.
Final thought, the horns need to be in phase, so if you have all the above and it doesn't help try reversing the connections on one horn only.
Good luck, I shall report my own result as soon as I have got round to fitting them.

As promised an update now that I have fitted the horns. Following my own advice - using a seriously thick wire back to the battery + relay and inline fuse they are working fine. Sound is frankly a bit "tinny" but it is loud! Measured 2 metres from the front of the car I am getting 116.2dB, thats well within the error of the sound meter to the claimed 118db.
Result which should alert a few pedestrians/cyclists!
