Well what did everyone think about Punchestown today. Apart from the weather the driving was outstanding especially the rallycross cars. I spoke to John Moloney who was driving an Escort Cossie and he reckoned he had 675bhp. Stupidly I asked, well John, what will it do 0 to 60, under 2 seconds and a ton will come up in under 5 seconds was the answer. Shiiiit!!!!! This guy must be hitting 60 years ( nearly as old as Philip Begley) of age and drives like a 19 year old maniac on steroids. A huge thank you must be given to Eoghan Kinane who printed out some 2000 full colour flyers to hand out to potential members and also brought along the clubs banners and a tent so we could save all the baldy bonces from getting burnt. Trevor Payne and Ruari and his wife ( sorry I didn't get your second name) for relieving Philip and myself from car park and recruiting duties and Catherine *** for the liquid refreshments. Jaysus I thought Trevor was going to start threatening people if they didn't join he was that eager, well done Trevor. Thanks also goes to in the region of 100 Subarus that turned up but unfortunately we could only get about 60 of these in our designated area. We should be close to, if not well over 100 members by the end of next week so watch out insurance, companies we're coming....

Cheers

Alan

P.S. Cheers to Andy W, SUL, PeteW, Turbo7379, and anyone else who I have forget to mention who travelled from up north and from the UK.

Hi Scruff, Andy and all the other members who I didnt get to talk to!

It was a top day, with super driving, great weather and good company! I just wish that Mr. Burns had been as down to earth and as accomodating as the other equally "big" guest Freddy Loix. At the prize giving at the end, Freddy was just wandering through the crowd, with absolutely no hint of the ginger whingers burgeoning ego at all.

And what a player to the crowd. I think he might just have sealed the scoob's fate. Many people know that Im considering defecting to an EVO VII and I think burnsie (doesn't deserve a capital B) has made my mind up. Why give Subaru my hard earned, when they dont give a toss in return.

Anyway ranting all over and major thanks to the guys and gals who watched over my baby during the day. I gave her a good scrubbing this morning and have discovered I now have gold wheels again It was also kinda good to discover that she wasn't abused by a key gouging ahole!

BTW to club officials & members, I'm sorry it took me so long to join, I detest sending money off to clubs that I know nothing about. So far I'm well impressed with activities and members, and it's definately worthy of my spends

See y'all at the next event !

Sul

PS I Owe Andy W for the Ginger Whinger tagline

Brilliant day out . Nice to see all the scoobs parked together especially all the legacy turbos that turned up . Lucky sods . Hopefully , now that we have enough members , the club may be able to get this insurance scheme running and I'll be driving one as well . Drive of the day for me was Ollie O'Donovan in the white legacy . He was very entertaining and was fully committing himself to the corners , sometimes losing bodywork in the process . Guess I have a soft spot for legacys .
Mitsubishi could teach subaru , especially Dave Richards , something about PR . They had their service area open , the car had its bonnet open and they were letting groups of spectators scrutinise the entire car and were answering any questions asked . They did the same at the ROGB last year . The closest we got to the subaru was 20 feet .

Great day out.

Did'nt actually meet any members apart from Alan & Phillip.

Saw Sul on the way to the course.

But anyway, it would be nice to see some more WRC drivers over here. I got completly roasted by the sun, suffering a bit now.

WORLD RALLY STARS ENTERTAIN HUGE CROWD AT PUNCHESTOWN
The huge crowd which descended on Punchestown Racecourse on Saturday to see world rally stars Richard Burns, Freddy Loix and Miki Biasion take part in the first ever World Rally Masters where not to be disappointed as they were treated to a display of spectacular rallying.

Filling the top three places, Burns, Loix and Biasion showed just why they have made it to the pinnacle of rallying. Accompanied by a host of celebrity co-drivers including ex-World Snooker Champion Ken Doherty, Boxer Michael Carruth, International Sailor David Burrows and TV personality Emma Buckley, their participation in World Rally Masters was a major sporting success for Ireland. To the cheers and whistles of a very appreciative crowd who packed the grandstands, the Subaru, Mitsubishi and Fiat stars brought the event to a close with a dramatic display of crowd pleasing 'Doughnuts'.

Spectators where also given their first opportunity to see the impressive set-ups of the Subaru World Rally Team and Marlboro Mitsubishi Ralliart who brought great colour to the courtyard of the County Kildare racecourse.

The competitive side of the event saw a trilling day long battle between current and former Irish Tarmac Rally Champions Andrew Nesbitt and Austin McHale with the pair tying for the top spot with equal times at the end of the six stage event.

The pair, Ireland's top rally drivers, started the event by setting equal times on the opening 4km stage. Driving his Cuisine de France Subaru Impreza WRC Nesbitt then edged ahead on stage 2 going one second faster than the Toyota Ireland Corolla WRC of McHale. The pair once again set equal times on stage three.

In the afternoon, with the stages run in the reverse direction, McHale posted a time three seconds faster than his Armagh rival to regain the lead. Dead level again on stage 5 McHale's Corolla held a two second advantage going into the final run.

Then, in a grandstand finish to World Rally Masters, Andrew Nesbitt set the fastest time of the day while McHale went a second slower than his previous run, leaving it all equal at the finish. After discussions with event director Ronan Morgan the pair agreed to call it a draw.

Behind the battling tarmac champions, Derek McGarrity took the final podium placing in his Subaru Impreza WRC while fourth went to Tipperary's Frank Meagher in a Ford Focus ahead of Daniel Doherty in a Subaru Impreza WRC. Former European and five times Belgian Rally Champion Patrick Snijers rounded off the top six in his Group N Prodrive Subaru.

The event saw Irish Minister for Sport, Tourism & Recreation Doctor James McDaid make his rallying debut as he became co-driver for fellow Donegal man James Cullen in the Wrangler Subaru Impreza WRC, the pair finishing 8th overall.

Double World Rally Champion Miki Biasion won the two wheel drive category driving the Super 1600 Fiat Punto while Ireland's Dermot Carnegie won the Rallycross section in his Ford Focus.

A historic day for Irish motorsport, the first ever World Rally Masters was a resounding success and the organisers are already promising to make the event an even greater spectacle in 2002.

Overall Results after stage 6 of 6
1. Austin McHale/Brian Murphy - Toyota Corolla WRC - 16m 02s
= Andrew Nesbitt/James O'Brien - Subaru Impreza WRC - 16m 02s
3. Derek McGarrity/Adrian Foley - Subaru Impreza WRC - 16m 22s
4. Frank Meagher/Dermot O'Gorman - Ford Focus WRC - 16m 28s
5. Daniel Doherty/Michael Doherty - Subaru Impreza WRC - 16m 38s
6. Patrick Snijers/Willie McKee - Subaru Impreza (Grp N) - 16m 41s
