Exclamation Installing gauges to a Classic - A guide

Turbo, Oil Temp and Oil Pressure.

2 holes were drilled in the back of the cubby tray to allow the cables to be sent through the bulkhead to the engine. The gauges have been earthed to the metal frame around the steering column. The pod has been secured with velcro and seems fairly stable. The gauges were going to be lit up from the lights but that caused the lights to be on permanently plus they weren’t getting enough volts. We tried to wire them up to the stereo but were met with the problem that the wires were either permanent lives or not at all. Instead the wire for the illumination has been connected to the air con fuse , the car doesn’t have it so was available.

The dash is quite awkward to pull apart and you have to give it some, but at the same time make sure you don’t break it! Everything’s gone back together as it was though without any problems.

Dash Apart:

The turbo gauge vacuum pipe is plumbed in to the manifold.

Both the oil gauges plumb in to the block. A Tee Piece is needed for this, as well as 1/8NPT male/female adaptor. In to the adaptor goes a braided hose, to which the oil pressure sender is attached.

Tee Piece and 1/8 Adaptor:
