Air Vents broken

Air Vents broken
I broken the vertical bits in one of the air Vents in the middle of the dash.
How do I get the whole unit out to try and repair them. Was trying to take a phone holder out to put in PDA/Sat Nav holder.

I've got a set of fins from a vent I took apart to mount my knocklink in.
Also got the outcase that won't hold the fins but will hold a knocklink.
Shout if either are any use.

P.s. It may not be broken !
They are clipped together and some times the holding bar at the back just falls out. It may be possible to click it all back together once removed.
Not done a 97 but if you send me pics I maybe able to talk / type you through it.

Cheers Scooby Towers!
I will take some pics but will probably be a couple of days or so (suddenly very busy...bloody computers!)
I think the vent is repairable...but I'll see what you think!

Fixed it!
Managed to snap the vertical 'bars' back in to line with the help of some tweasers!
And now decided on a suction-mount rather than vent mount for PDA / Sat Nav system
Thanks for the offer of help though!

I know this is an old thread but i have the same problem on a ver.6. There are two screws hidden by plastic covers inside the oddments tray which i have removed but it seems it doesnt want to come off. Is there something im missing here? Theres nothing else obvious holding it down and i dont want to break it!
Regards,
Doug.

No worries Doug.
Once the two screws are out (the ones behind the little plastic covers) then its a case of no guts, no glory.
The top box, vent surrounds and air vents all come out as one unit.
Simply grab the little lock bar (that the top lid locks to) and pull the whole unit towards the rear of the car.
Don't try lifting it - just pull backwards.
The unit is held in with lugs and you may feel your about to break something, but it will go if your persistant ( a waggle sometimes helps).
If your to worried about breaking something, and your near Lancashire, give me a shout and I'll happilly do it for you.
Chris.
P.s. If you do bust anything, shout - I've a spare unit in the loft.
