I'd say stay away from them simply because they're fecking useless. 8 months after an accident where someone pulled out in front of me, not only have they failed to resolve the issues of liability (meaning I've paid £350 excess, had my NCB reduced and my premiums increased until settled) but they're not bothered, haven't made any attempts to sort it out and don't look like doing so either. In about an hours time from now, someone at Highway is going to receive a phone call that will put them in a very bad mood for the rest of the day.

We was having a laugh and seemed genuine.So i suggested going out for a test drive. I took 2 of them out while one of them stayed in the car they came in. After a 15 minute rant, they agreed to chase it up the same day and get back to me. Result? 3rd party has now accepted 100% liability. Took them 10 minutes in the end. Why couldn't they have done that 6 months ago?

Mate i had an accident on my motorbike which wasn't my fault, A YEAR later i'm still waiting for a settlement and due to the ***** car driver fabricating some mad story that i was travelling at the speed of light and was trying to overtake two cars which were already overtaking on a country road i've been forced to accept a 50/50 settlement, but still haven't recieved any cash yet and am stuck with a broken £4500 motorbike which i carn't sell till this is sorted.

Hi guys,

In our experience, we found that Highway Insurance had outsourced claims to a claims management co (auto indemnity) for a period of 2 years, which was intended to be a positive thing, but did add a link to the process.

They recognised this was not working for them as they had hoped and back in April brought the whole process in house.

As an Broker we do deal with numerous Insurers, but have a decent level of business with Highway (enough to know how they perform daily) and can confirm that their claims handling is in the main both effective and efficient.

Don't be shy in the event that you experience problems, Highway have a constant focus upon customer service these days and have a specific department to investigate and lend an extra hand to customers that are experiencing problems.

With regard to getting your NCB reinstated following a non-fault claim, this will only occur once your Insurer has recovered their outlay from the responsible party's Insurer.

Snowy - Highway recover their outlay for all straight forward claims themselves, but in the event that the Third Party refuse or dispute liability they employ a solicitor (Lyons Davidson) to take action to recover their outlay.

With it being a year, which is an awfully long time for this kind of thing - it may be worth calling Highway to assess where they are up to. If you have managed to recover your excess, it would also be worth advising this to them as it may now pave the way for Highway to also recover their outlay (assuming they havent done so already).

It's a classic scam - it was shown 'how to do it' on The Real Hustle. The only way of preventing it is to turn the engine off and walk round to the passenger's side with keys tightly in your hand, preferably with your hand stuffed in your trouser pocket, also. Only hand the keys over once you're safely in the passenger seat with seatbelt on and door closed (of course, this is all easier said than done in the heat of the moment!)

Thing is, God forbid what they might have done to you anyway, seeing as they were so determined to steal it in the first place!?!

My deepest sympathy goes out to you and I can only hope (by some miracle, seemingly) that the insurers have a change of heart.

Come on guys - you always, always, always have your own mates with you - the larger the better - and at least one goes in the car with you to match up the numbers, you keep the keys when you swap over and, better still, have the fuel guage in the reserve so it will run out within a few miles. I have no sympathy whatsoever for anyone who is still stupid enough to fall for this kind of scam as it is so well known.

I can fill you all in on how shamefully bad Highway are. Took them a year to repair my car and it was never done right and to this day still is not right, handles like a sack of spuds makes strange noises and is generally not that nice t drive.

Best bit was when Xtreme Scoobies looked at, due to all the problems, they told me it should have failed the MOT the repairing agent gave it due to the brake line being refttted upside down and having a large hole in it which was potential lethal, great ! Highway did not have a checking procedure for the cars before they are put back on the road in this state unless things have changed since. So I got the car back with a totally buckled wheel and a hole in one of the tyres also !

No confidence in them or their agents, not surprised that they came bottom in Autoexpress survey of insurance companies.

If anyone wants to know more let me know.

Have most of it detailed as I was going to take them to court but then got so stressed gave up as it was going to make me very ill.

This was how the car came back the first time with clutch smoking it must be added as the guy driving it had no idea how to drive a car ! New clutch and flywheel needed not long after that, thanks !

The repair agent they used the first time were totally incompetent and the second place slightly better at generally incompetent.

As far as i know you can only be insured with Highway via a broker, and if you have any problems the broker should be sorting it out with Highway on your behalf.

I can confirm, as Allan's broker at the time Greenlight worked with Allan to assist him with getting the situation with Highway resolved.

Poor Allan had a really bad experience with an Auto Indemnity (Highway's claims management Co at the time) Approved repairer, he raised this with Greenlight who intervened.

Highway appointed a qualified engineer who concurred with Allan that the initial repair carried out by Auto Indemnity's approved repairer was poor - they then contacted the claims management Co to request an alternative repairer.

The 2nd repair did improve some aspects but there was still an issue with a vibration being felt through the steering wheel.

Allan & I worked together - coming to the conclusion that a specialist in this area was required.

Xtreme Scoobies were suggested by Allan to be the nearest expert due to the previous positive experiences that Allan had with them with his Impreza. They provided an estimate to rectify the problem and to expedite the resolution of this situation Greenlight paid the invoice hopeful that Xtreme Scoobies could resolve the problem for Allan.

The accident was back in 2004, but three repairs and a trip to a specialist suspension manufacturer later Allan's vehicle still seemed to have a vibration issue.

One point that we need to clarify - Auto Indemnity are a claims management company with a large fleet of courtesy vehicles and an approved garage network at their disposal. Roughly 5 years ago Highway Insurance appointed Auto Indemnity to manage their accident related claims, this being with the intention of improving the service offered to their policyholders involved in road traffic accidents.

Adding another link in the claim chain unfortunately did not work and 18 months after their appointment Auto-indemnity's contract was not renewed by Highway, who had chosen to beef up their internal operation to control the handling of claims again themselves with effect from April 2006.

Their claims service levels were restored and have improved since April 2006 when Highway took back control of handling their claims internally.

One thing that I cannot stress enough is that if you are experiencing problems, DO NOT SUFFER IN SILENCE - let us, Moley, A-Plan, LV - or whomever you are Insured with know ASAP.

A-Plan, Keith Michaels & Greenlight are all proactive brokers that would be happy to help in any way they can.
