My quote from Admiral was
£621 and is the lowest I have found on the web:

for 33 year old male
31 year old wife
Full NCB Protected
Fully Comp
1999 4 door UK Subaru Impreza Turbo with
Scoobysport exhaust mod
No accidents etc
£250 excess

Can anyone beat this?

Last year I paid £425 from Bennetts Elite, so I would expect a 20% increase to put my insurance around the £500 mark. £621 is too much to pay, the increase is way too high!!!!

Anyone recommend any other on line sites?

Talking

Not On-line (too much like progress ) but try NFU

Do a search on NFU or Karen on this forum & a number will appear (can't remember just now & 'bin drinkin'). Specially recommended for those over 30

Give her my love

MY99 4 door turbo.
33 year old, me as only driver!
SS backbox, ITG filter, 130w cibies and fully body colour coded ( including the naff plastic wedges under the indicators )
Full NCB, protected.
No claims/points.
Normally garaged.

Privilege £538
NFU wanted £631
Worst quote I had was from Norwich Union Direct," we're not competitive, it's coming up at nearly £1,000. "

Don't know if Barcalays are still doing their "we will beat any quote"? If so lie!!!!!

Paul,

I'd agree with you.

However, I think the way insurance companies see it is that anything that inspires confidence in driving (e.g. faster car - albeit safer, bigger brakes, roll cage etc.) will make you drive faster. Hence if/when a crash occurs it is more likely to be at a higher speed, so more damage is going to be done, not only to the car, but also to people.

Quoted over £750 from NFU. Karen could not offer limited mileage of 7500 a year, hence she could not match lower quotes.

So far:

Bennetts Elite £601
Quoteline Direct (Wilsons) £601
both on only 7500 mileage a year!

Still waiting on replies on a few more internet quotes.

What gets me about the insurance industry is if they lose out one year, they try and claim it back over the next few years. Personal injury claims are to blame, but if they add 20% on each year, then those paying the most, end up with the biggest increase.

Also I have a second hand escort as a run around. Now the insurance on this is £200 a year. However this car is the biggest liability on the roads!! There is no steering feel, the car is disgraceful in the wet, the brakes are crap, if feels so unsafe. Yet millions of people are driving around in these cars and paying a lot less insurance than Scooby drivers. Yet if it came to the crunch, I would rather be in the Scooby when confronting a dangerous situation on the road. In the Scooby I feel completely in control and would be able to try and get out of a situation with confidence. In the Escort, bloody hell, I would spin out of control and cause more mayhem.
So how come the insurance company charge more for the Scooby yet if they are saying they need to cover the personal injury claims, why don't they pick on the cars that are just not up to safety aspect side of things!?!

So to be me, the cars like the escort etc should be more money insurance wise than a car that is safer to drive ie the Scooby!

Also how come a brake upgrade costs more money insurance wise?
Yes, Mr Insurance company, the brakes faded on the country roads and I ended up off the road and is the reason why I am claiming. Or, the brake upgrade I had to give an extra £50 on top of my insurance kept me on the road and hence no claim!

What does everyone else think?

Of course you have to bear in mind that the scooby is a much higher theft target and will usually cost more to replace than an escort van if (when?) it gets stolen. This has to be taken into account with the very high insurance cost I suppose.

Still seems too expensive to me though, I pay nearly £900, 27 yrs old, 5yrs NCB, UK MY2000, Fully comp.

Doesn't seem too bad to me - The car would cost <>£20k to replace. You're only paying one twentieth of that in insurance... I wouldn't expect to keep a scooby for 20 years without a major incident/theft... That's what the premiums are about. If I can get a decent price for my current car my scoob will be for a few years until it no doubt gets broken/nicked. Then I can build up no claims again on something a little more insurance friendly.

The personal injury claims will make claims skyrocket over the next few years once we all start claiming six figure sums for whiplash as seems so common in the US. The increase in (IMHO bad taste) 'ersonal injury specialists' gold digging at you from adverts on TV to sue people who crah into you, your employers, or whoever shows there must be a lot of money floating around and that cash is going to get taken from us in insurance.
