Talking Beat This! Bell Direct are the Dogs!

32 year old, 5 years no claim, no points/conviction/claims, living in London

currently driving 1997 Wrx

Thinking of changing to 2001 STI or EVO 7

For STI
Tesco -£876.75
A-Plan -£750.00
Bell Direct-£695.20

For EVO 7
Tesco - £1205.40
A-Plan - £859.00
Bell Direct - £716.10 !!!!

Looks like an EVO 7 for me then!

IS the Bell direct quote too good to be true?
Anyone had any problems with this mob in the past? Would be good to know!

Check their prices with mods first!
The Evo 7 will amost certainly have been modded (decat being the most common) unless the previous owner is putting the car back to standard.

Good prices though!

A-plan have quoted me yesterday £765 for a 2003 JDM WRX STi modded.

If I was you check out the JDM Subaru's, you will find them much better specced than a UK car.

I used to be with Bell, I only changed because come renewal time they increased my premium by £450 (I had a £5k claim due to attempted theft).
On the service front though they were superb, repairs authorised within 48hrs, no problems or delays with paperwork etc. ... I'd still be with them if it hadn't been for the renewal premium (they were also friendly to mods inc. alloys, suspension & PPP etc.)

I am currently with privilege ... and, touch wood, have had no problems as yet.
(FYI: Privelege wanted +£280 for PPP, +£380 for TSL 333)

Thumbs down Problems with previous accident

Just filled in the online form for Bell Direct and hit a nasty catch. Two weeks ago my girlfriend was shunted from behind when she stopped at a zebra crossing. I was in the car and it was totally the other guy's fault.

On the Bell Direct site it asks you if any of the drivers have had a claim, but there is no option to say whose fault it was. Declaring that my girlfriend had had an accident added £50 to a £750 quote. Both me and the girlfriend extremely pissed off at being automatically penalised for something that was not our fault. £750 also not a particularly great quote anyway for a standard 1999 Turbo and 8 years no claims.

Cool

Just had my renewal from L&V for £478

gone up £28 on last year so renewed it

had a good chat with the bloke re modifications and since last November they will not take on any new buisness with modded cars and now i can not add any addional mods on or my insurance would be cancelled and you cant pay an upgrade for any mods ,

so make sure you keep all your reciepts dated incase of claims

That comes as NO surprise regarding BellDirect! My son was with them when he was hit head on by an old lady in a Metro. She was 100% to blame and was prosecuted etc. Although he never lost his NCB his next year premium increased by 48%!!! When asked why, they blatently admitted it was because of the accident! Their premiums may be reasonable to start with, but you will not stay with them after a claim - your fault or not.

Bell don't like mods much and they won't allow you to have PPP fitted anymore. There are better companies out there if you want to tinker with your baby, that said if your keeping it standard they're quite good.

Maybe your quote is good this year, just wait until next year mine went up quite a bit for no reason, left and went to Privilige for half the price

When looking at Bell Direct, get a quote from Elephant and Admiral as well.

It was constantly changing as to who was the cheapest.

Bell Direct were cheapest about a month before my renewal (checking weekly), then Elephant came in £25 cheaper when it was renewal time!

When I had my M3 I did a quote with admiral and bell direct and elephant, all 3 came in with the same prices of around £1200, however before I got round to taking out a policy with them, I managed to acquire a 7 day ban (sp50) and thus re did the quotes with all 3 companies, they went up to £3500, so I rang admiral, and they said yes the price is correct as they don't like convictions :O

I laughed at them and went to firebond and payed £760 in the end
