Just got £100 added to my premium for SP30 by Tesco. For me this a 10% increase. Took me up to an 8 point total.

I've just had a speeding fine. I told my insurers (elephant.co.uk)

Got an e-mail back yesterday, along the lines of "Yes certainly sir, we'll add that to your policy. that'll be an extra £130 please"

My response was something along the lines of "gibber, gibber GIBBER? 25% increase? gibber Tesce quote £96 cheaper gibber beat Tesco or lose customer gibber gibber"

When I got up from the floor I sent them an e-mail back to suggest they might want to see if they can work it cheaper. Haven't had any response yet, and I guess there won't be anyone in the office till Tuesday now.

I was expecting a small increase, but £130 on top of a £454 premium (28% increase) - surely thats a bit much. Does anyone have experience of insurers who are a bit more tolerant to speeding fines.

I'm 24, but I drive a Skoda Felicia, it don't go bad for a 1.3, but its hardly built for speed.

Any suggestions appreciated.

My SP30 did not affect my premium. I take it you only got 3 points and it your 1st. I think they are taking the pi55.

My 3 points with Privilege made no difference either. The chap on the phone said they they now expect most people to have 3 points!

Thanks for the input guys.

Taking the pi55 was about my reaction too. Was all set to move to Tesco and save meself £100.

Then I got talked into buying a Corsa Sport 1.6 somehow Elephant was half what Tesco wanted for it.

I'll never figure out how these premiums work - I'm sure they just have a random number generator somewhere that gives out the quotes.
