Assuming that the Alpine has a standard ISO lead, which it probably does, then you need one of these:

Low Cost Car Audio | Autoleads PC2-44-4 *PC2444 - Subaru ISO harness lead

Yes the Alpine will have ISO's unless they have been chopped off or non Alpine lead.

A little more expensive, but these places have excellent customer service:

Autoleads PC2-29-4 ISO Lead £7.66 Autoleads, Sextons Direct

Car Audio Direct - Subaru wiring adaptor - Fitting Adaptor

Just check as i believe MY00 already has the iso plugs. Go down the wires a little and check if the next plug down fits staight in.

I only say this because i bought the adapter for my MY99 and then found i didnt need it for my Clarion head unit.

I just fitted an Alpine unit and did not need an adaptor so not 100% on this one. Did you take the plug straight out of teh standard unit as there is another plug further down. Make sure theres no leads left connected to the original unit.

Is that the alpine facia surround, youll need to make sure where the little tabs on the surround go into the cage is nice and flat. Sometimes when you fit the cage it gets bent slightly, you need to open up the 5 little slots and make sure there even and not bent in anyway. Hope that makes sense.
